Site Reliability Engineer II

The Site Reliability Engineer II enables reliable and secure infrastructure that supports fast, scalable, and effective delivery of software solutions. This role implements infrastructure and automation in alignment with project and organizational goals, ensuring high system availability and operational excellence. They support production environments, drive observability efforts, and help development teams deliver efficiently and securely, sometimes outside of standard business hours per contract requirements.

  • Their proactive monitoring and issue resolution efforts directly reduce system downtime and improve service reliability.
  • They also contribute to enhanced team productivity by reducing manual processes and improving infrastructure quality.

Your Responsibilities in This Role:

  • Implement cloud infrastructure and pipeline solutions with minimal direction in accordance with technical standards.
  • Decompose large tasks into discrete deliverables that align with strategic priorities.
  • Design and automate observability systems, including logging and monitoring tools using SLIs for critical services.
  • Resolve issues in infrastructure areas including networking, databases, and compute environments.
  • Automate and remediate system security processes and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Deliver scripting and tooling to interface with external APIs and integrate services.
  • Address production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.
  • Manage infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation). Guide and mentor other engineers in infrastructure and automation best practices. Participate actively in Agile team discussions, planning, and ceremonies.
  • Contribute feedback to refine technical processes and team practices.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Strong proficiency with Linux systems (especially RHEL) and scripting in Bash or Python. Skilled in managing infrastructure using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and configuration tools like Chef, Ansible, or Puppet.
  • Deep understanding of application, network, and infrastructure security principles. Experience with distributed systems and scalable application architecture.
  • Proficient in Git, including common and advanced commands (e.g., branching, merging, rebasing).
  • Comfortable integrating with external APIs using REST, JSON, and authentication tokens. Familiarity with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or OpenShift.

Soft Skills:

  • Strategic thinking and strong problem-solving under pressure.
  • Effective communication and collaboration across cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated with initiative to drive personal and technical growth.
  • Ability to mentor others and influence team practices through expertise and leadership.

Prior Experience:

  • Mid-level experience in infrastructure engineering, site reliability, or DevOps roles.
  • Experience supporting elastic applications and distributed systems.
  • Prior work with government or enterprise-scale clients preferred.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related

Other Requirements:

  • Proficiency in a programming language and framework such as Python/Django, Java/Spring, Go, Node.js/Express, or Ruby/Rails.
  • Experience managing and scaling data stores (e.g., AWS S3, RDS, document-oriented databases).
  • Current certifications such as AWS Developer Associate, Solutions Architect, or CompTIA Security+ are a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and practices.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.

Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings.

Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.

Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).

The salary range for this position is:

Minimum Salary: $91,554

Salary Midpoint: $119,020

Maximum Salary: $146,486

Hiring Range: $91,554 - $135,000
