The salary ranges for this position based on location are listed below. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified as a part of our annual salary range review.

  • NC Residents: $103,935 (min) - $135,115 (mid) - $166,296 (max)
  • DE, MD, PA, TX, VA Residents: $109,132 (min) - $141,871 (mid) - $174,610 (max)
  • DC Residents: $122,643 (min) - $159,436 (mid) - $196,229 (max)
  • CA, NY, NJ Residents: $126,800 (min) - $164,299 (mid) - $202,881 (max)

Summary

  • The AI/ML SME is a vanguard for machine learning solutions that transform our customers' digital services. This person advocates for machine learning and inspires both Fearless internally and our client's organizations to new efficiencies and services. You will design, implement, and optimize AI-driven solutions to automate repetitive acquisition processes and leverage AI for predictive modeling to improve planning and scheduling efficiency., integrating them into business workflows, and building AI systems that enhance organizational decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • The selected candidate will work directly with the end customer and across large teams and mission systems in the development and architecting of solutions to transform capabilities across various ground offices.
  • The candidate will have daily interaction with the customer and supporting contractors and will need to follow customer standards and processes as the program matures through the life cycle.
  • The Candidate will interact with multiple Acquisition Offices (AOs) and support technical consultation, meeting coordination, and support to recommendation briefings. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Works with the Government program leads for ideation and execution of AI/ML or Deep Learning (DL) solutions to meet mission needs. Advise senior Government leads on the opportunities and limitations of various AI/ML capabilities and provide recommendations for technical approaches and designs with associated tradeoffs
  • Assist in the validation and assessment of models currently in production
  • Integrate new systems and initiatives in support of customer/mission partner requirements and work directly with our developers and users in operations
  • Understand system-to-system interfaces and act as an Integrator
  • Monitor system and segment schedules, recognize dependencies
  • Aiding in meeting facilitation and information sessions

Responsibilities and Contributions
Organizational and Leadership Role

  • Guides and helps the organization understand the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions in our digital transformation of our clients' organizations.
  • Grows a community within Fearless around machine learning and artificial intelligence for technical and ethical excellence.
  • Coaches our current workforce to recognize and identify our customers' opportunities with their data to impact their mission and generate solutions that help them achieve it.


Functional Role

  • Serve as the customer's primary expert on generative AI and LLM technologies, providing technical leadership and strategic guidance for AI-related projects.
  • Lead the research, evaluation, and implementation of advanced LLMs, ensuring their integration into complex workflows to automate acquisition and procurement processes.
  • Define best practices and establish AI standards for the organization, ensuring compliance with industry trends and advancements.
  • Research, evaluate, and select appropriate Large Language Models (LLMs) based on specific use cases and organizational requirements.
  • Fine-tune and customize LLMs to automate and improve repetitive tasks in acquisition processes, such as document generation, data entry, and workflow automation.
  • Defines the system in which project teams create machine learning documentation, including business goals, data gathering and processes, applicable approaches, final algorithms, and detailed results and analytical metrics.
  • Helps customers understand the impact of AI on their operating model and develop skills in and comfort with machine learning solutions.
  • Design and implement AI tools that automate repetitive tasks in acquisition and procurement processes, reducing human intervention, improving efficiency, and ensuring consistency.
  • Integrate AI solutions into existing acquisition workflows, working with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless adoption.
  • Develop machine learning models to forecast and predict planning, scheduling, and resource management outcomes.
  • Use AI-driven predictive modeling to shorten decision-making cycles, optimize timelines, and improve overall operational planning efficiency.
  • Continuously evaluate the performance of AI models, making adjustments and optimizations to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Implement feedback loops to refine AI systems based on user input and evolving business requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in generative AI and LLMs, ensuring that the organization stays at the forefront of AI technology.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, data scientists, and technical teams to align AI solutions with organizational goals.
  • Supports organizational success by conducting analysis and proposing machine learning solutions in response to RFIs, RFPs, and other Government pre-award solicitations.


Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies
Must-Have Skills

  • Requires a technical degree: 10 to 12 years with BS/BA OR 8 to 10 years with MS/MA OR 5 to 7 years with PhD
  • Possess and maintain a TS/SCI with Poly
  • Experience with AI/ML in government, defense, or large enterprise settings.
  • Integrate new systems and initiatives in support of customer/mission partner requirements and work directly with our developers and users in operations
  • Extensive experience leading AI projects from inception to deployment, particularly in automating business processes and implementing predictive models.
  • Understand system-to-system interfaces and act as an Integrator
  • Monitor system and segment schedules, recognize dependencies
  • Proficiency in AI-based predictive modeling for business operations, including scheduling, automation, forecasting, and optimization.
  • Expert proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for deploying and scaling AI solutions. Azure is the highest preference.
  • Demonstrated background and expertise in Python and experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Hugging Face.
  • Experience working with at least one data analysis tool like Hadoop, Apache Spark, or cloud-provider equivalents.
  • Experience in data processing and data annotation, especially when evaluating and synthesizing multiple data sources of information.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to work both independently and to collaborate with multiple other departments to build machine learning capabilities in Fearless.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.


Icing-on-the-Cake Skills

  • MS or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Math, or other quantitative fields.
  • Familiarity with AI ethics, model interpretability, and explainability.
  • Experience with using AI to automate acquisition processes in regulated industries.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, full-stack development, and platform solutions in the development and production of artificial intelligence that meet the mission objectives and goals of our clients.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings, which may involve driving or flying.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).
