The mission of the MGH Center for Community Health Improvement (CCHI) is to collaborate with underserved communities to improve health. CCHI carries out this mission by working to reduce substance abuse and violence in Chelsea, Revere and Charlestown, increase access to care for vulnerable populations, eliminate racial and ethnic disparities for all MGH patients and provide opportunities for Boston, Revere and Chelsea students.

The MGH Youth Program provides academic and experiential opportunities in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to youth in grades 3 -12, and beyond. The MGH Youth Scholars Program (YSP) provides foundational learning for Scholars in grades 9 - 12 and beyond. The goal is to spark college aspirations and ensure that MGH Scholars understand the connection between obtaining a health or science career and the academic preparation it takes to succeed in these careers. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that MGH Youth Scholars are inspired about opportunities in science and healthcare, compelled to complete high school and enter the workforce or matriculate and graduate from institutions of higher education while having the necessary mindset to thrive on a college campus and contribute as a skilled and compassionate professional.

The Project Manager is responsible for developing a curriculum that exposes high school students to a variety of careers in STEM and builds upon the existing college and career curriculum modules.

The manager will facilitate weekly group sessions along with building one-on-one relationships with students and their families. Potential topics and activities will include continued exposure to careers in healthcare and medicine through hands-on department visits and interactive workshops, college exploration activities and integration of a social/emotional learning curriculum.

The manager will demonstrate bold innovation, superior program management, networking, and relationship building skills all while maintaining the highest standard of excellence for MGH's Youth Programs. The manager will also have a passion and demonstrated experience and success in youth development, college access and persistence work.

Reporting to the Director of Youth Programs and working alongside with other YSP coordinators and managers the College and Career Project Manager will develop strategies that will assure the achievement of MGH's Youth Program's short- and long-term comprehensive goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Develop and maintain partnership with the hospital's department to create workshops and opportunities for students to learn about healthcare careers.
  • Organize college visits and college fairs for students to learn about different institutions and identify best matches.
  • Advises students about post-high school college and career options for the purpose of setting goals in students' pursuits and identifying resources to assist with future planning.
  • Build and expand upon programming that will expose Youth Scholars to colleges and universities throughout MA (strongly encouraged to think outside of just Boston)
  • Build Scholars' leadership, confidence, and critical thinking skills.
  • Serves as ready resource to students to provide support that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
  • Develop opportunities and avenues that allow for 11th grade parents/guardians to feel included their students post-high school plans
  • Refining practices and procedures that will strategically strengthen and broaden program impact for the MGH Youth Scholars
  • Demonstrate superior project management, networking, and relationship building skills.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree Required
  • 3-5 years' experience with progressive responsibility in youth development, college access (Upward Bound experience ideal)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and successful strategies for addressing the needs of first generation and low-income college students.
  • Knowledge of pre/post high school program eligibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of college/university admissions processes, scholarship programs and other educational opportunities.
  • Knowledge of current developments in business and industry regarding career opportunities and employment.
  • A track record of successfully accomplishing multiple goals, team-building and communication skills; and genuine enthusiasm for students
  • Goal-driven approach to work with a demonstrated ability to develop a positive rapport with leaders and decision-makers from diverse sectors.
  • Works well within a large, complex system with multiple internal stakeholders
  • Proven as a team player
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work collaboratively to inspire, motivate and focus students, parents, colleagues and partners
  • "Can do" work ethic and idealism.
