Position Summary

The Los Rios Community College District is seeking qualified candidates for this part-time, temporary position. Temporary positions are filled as needed through ongoing recruitment. Applicants are contacted and hired year-round based on college needs.

The OER Specialist, under the direction of the OER Project Lead and/or Supervisor, will assist faculty in finding and adopting Open Educational Resources.


Typical Duties

This position will assist faculty who are participating in CRC's Open Educational Resources (OER) Award Program by supporting the adoption and creation of open and affordable course content. After an initial training period, duties could include:

  • Providing expert guidance to faculty wishing to pursue open access avenues for course development
  • Advising on intellectual property issues and copyright generally in the publishing process
  • Compiling and formatting OER materials, including textbooks and Canvas courses, that instructors have written or selected for use in their courses
  • Recording and tracking the development of OER projects, keeping communication with instructors open to better facilitate the creation and adoption of OER materials
  • Participating in outreach activities to promote open access scholarly dissemination

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: One year of experience in a clerical-type position, OR, two years of experience in any type of working environment.

EDUCATION: Completion of an Associate's Degree or 60 semester units (90 quarter units).

Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: One year of education is equal to 30 semester units.)

Education must be from an accredited institution.
