  • Position: Athletic Trainer
  • Location: Lincolnshire, IL
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, various hours between 8am - 7pm; Rotating Saturdays
  • Required Travel: Travel to other sites based off of department's need

A Brief Overview:
The Athletic Trainer will collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and intervention of emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations and disabilities. Athletic trainers specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating muscle and bone injuries and illnesses.

What you will do:

  • Knowledge and demonstration of NorthShore customer service standards.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with Federal, State and local laws that apply to the job's area of responsibility.

  • Ongoing growth and development from participation in events such as workshops, in-service programs and departmental meetings.
  • Provide service based on physical, psychological, educational and related criteria appropriate to the age and type of the patients/customers served in their area.
  • Act as a liaison between interdisciplinary healthcare providers, patients, and their families
  • Perform vital signs with special attention to the geriatric, neonatal and pediatric patients; prepare patients for physician visit.
  • Document in the EMR utilizing the standardized rooming patient protocol.
  • Perform laboratory and diagnostic testing as ordered; document results in the EMR.
  • Provide a therapeutic exercise plan, patient education, follow-up planning and referrals.
  • Assist with patient and family treatment plan adjustments and / or other procedures within established parameters.
  • Fit patients with braces, crutches, and other associated durable medical equipment.
  • Provide telephone management and support for patients / families.
  • Collaborate with community resources, equipment, home care vendors, and other healthcare professional.
  • Obtain general medical and daily care histories.
  • Perform review of systems.
  • Perform specialty-specific physical exams as requested.
  • Provide lectures, programs and education opportunities to the community in area of expertise.
  • Develop patient and family educational materials.
  • Assure smooth and efficient workflows and operations in specialty area.
  • In conjunction with supervisory staff and physician, monitor quality measures and assure compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in patient care clinical projects and initiatives.
  • Assist leadership with marketing and growing specialty patient population.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the clinic; maintain inventory of supplies and order as needed.
  • Schedule patient appointments; assist with front office activities.
  • Assist with activities such as scanning of outside records into the EMR.
  • Work jointly with management to maintain NorthShore Performance Improvement Standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by practice management and physician.
  • Maintain frequent and ongoing communication with the clinical team regarding patient status, activities and work completed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and Practice Manager.
  • Consistently cooperate with all team members.
  • Recognize and provide needed assistance to co-workers.
  • Demonstrate flexibility.
  • Meet departmental attendance standards.
  • Perform duties assigned.
  • Complete all documentation requirements.
  • Manage in-basket messages correctly and document in the EMR.
  • Use Smart Sets, Smart Tools and Smart Phrases in the EMR.
  • Addend encounters correctly.
  • Navigate through the EMR chart.
  • Make quick appointments in Cadence.


What you will need:

  • Bachelors Degree Required
  • Experience in sports medicine, athletic training or therapeutic environment preferred.
  • Evidence of leadership, problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, basic computer skills and clinical competence; ability to work evening hours if required.
  • American Red Cross CPR - American Red Cross Current CPR certification Required Or
  • Certified Athletic Trainer (AT) - National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Athletic Trainer Certification (from the National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification, Inc.) Required Or
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer (AT) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Current Licensed Athletic Trainer license thru IDFPR Required
