The Cliffe Lab in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, is seeking a Laboratory Specialist to work on projects investigating Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) infection in neurons. More information on the lab can be found here https://med.virginia.edu/cliffe/. The lab specialist will work closely with a postdoctoral research fellow to use virology, molecular biology, and cell biology techniques to study the consequences of HSV neuronal infection, with the long-term goal being to determine the contribution of HSV-1 infection to the development of neurodegenerative disease. This project involves an existing collaboration between multiple labs conducting cell biology and animal studies to investigate the link between HSV infection and Alzheimer's disease. Research activities will include, but not be limited to, propagating and titrating virus stocks, routine tissue culture, general molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid isolation, RT-PCR, RNAseq), microscopy, and animal work.
