SUMMARY

The Manager I, Production is an operations staff level position and will be considered a key influencer within the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving a culture of safety and quality first and will manage their P&L and focus on sustaining profitable growth across all aspects of their operations. The Manager I, Production will be expected to have an understanding of lean manufacturing principles and will be a champion for and leader of continuous improvements within the factory. This position is responsible for managing and mentoring a team of exempt supervisors and will oversee the day-to-day manufacturing of quality products that are delivered on-time to customer request dates and within budget. In addition, this position is accountable for achieving or exceeding product cost targets (KPI's) and maintaining proper inventory levels within their budgeted overhead structure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Production Responsibilities: Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment that is compliant with all OSHA and EPA regulations and guidelines. Directly responsible for the manufacturing of electromechanical motors and drives in a timely manner according to customer request dates. Accountable for providing accurate revenue forecasts and the development of the operations plan and execution required for delivering on those forecasts. This position is responsible for maintaining all quality requirements associated with multiple product lines with varying volumes in a high mix, short cycle environment.

Operations Management: Responsible for operating within all budgets including achieving product cost/margin forecasts. Accountable for maintaining minimal inventory levels to meet the dynamic needs of a highly complex business using both material requirements planning (MRP) inventory and Kanban inventory management system. This role will be accountable for achieving operating performance targets and driving improvements in cost, cycle time, and lead time reductions.

Associate Development: Responsible for developing associates in a manner which meets the future needs of the organization and annually preparing an HR plan to identify key influencers, areas of organizational and individual development, and succession planning. Motivation, development, and training of all product line and plant employees; encourage optimum productivity while advising team leaders on policy administration of company procedures with accuracy and confidence. Be a champion for and driver of open employee communications.

Supply Chain: Partner with the appropriate members of the supply chain team including quality, production, planning, and sourcing. Leadership in this area will drive further improvement in a cost-effective supply chain through structured planning, clear communications, year-over-year cost reductions and process improvements both internally and at supplier locations.

Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering: Responsible for working closely with Design and Engineering leadership teams to develop and execute Accelerated Product Development (APD), a process that facilitates aggressive product launch and high customer satisfaction. Also responsible for driving lower product costs through process improvements that include setup time, cycle time, and lead time reduction.

Business Management: Work with the Commercial leadership teams and the customer support team to produce business forecasts. Ongoing communication with the P&L finance team is required to maximize operational efficiencies and profit. Other key interfaces include the Human Resources (HR), Finance, and Compliance Leaders in Kollmorgen.

Nature and Scope (Working Conditions): Full time on-site. Limited travel. Role requires significant factory floor presence (>50% of work time). Must exercise continuous leadership that includes both daily and visual management to focus product line efforts on priorities and be technically proficient to "troubleshoot" mechanical, electrical, and operational interruptions.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • 2 years of manufacturing supervisory experience
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred ; focus on Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Operations Management is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with operations daily management, process development and organizational development experience in a Lean/Pull operations environment
  • Prior experience with utilizing lean methodology and tools to improve operations
  • Specific experience with cellular manufacturing, process improvement, and new product introduction
  • Excellent communications and instruction skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in time and project management
  • Familiarity with various technical manufacturing and/or machining processes
  • Experience with a growing business is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately assess key business metrics and situations from a Senior Leadership perspective
  • Demonstrated aptitude in organization development through a combination of effective talent planning and associate development
