Processing Archivist - West Virginia & Regional History Center

The West Virginia University Libraries invites applications for the position of Visiting Librarian (Processing Archivist) for the American Congress Digital Archives Portal (ACDAP) project. This is a 24-month term position funded through the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The Project Archivist willreport to the Associate Director of the West Virginia & Regional History Center (WVRHC).

The Processing Archivist will arrange and describe collections and prepare finding aids for congressional papers collections in the WVRHC. With the WVRHC Associate Director and staff, the Processing Archivist will establish processing priorities, track progress, and compile relevant statistics related to processing. They will implement preservation, conservation, and restrictions for congressional papers materials as needed, and follow and implement policies, procedures, and workflows for all aspects of archival collection management at the WVRHC.

In consultation with the WVRHC Associate Director, the Processing Archivist will recommend collection items for digitization and inclusion in the ACDAP project. They will contribute to and oversee digitization and metadata creation for digital materials and quality control of vendor-digitized archival assets.

Working collaboratively with the Libraries' Systems Department and WVRHC faculty and staff, the Processing Archivist will contribute to digital preservation of collection materials. They will also work collaboratively with the Project Manager and partner institutions of the ACDAP project.

The Processing Archivist will supervise and guide processing and digitization work of a graduate student. The salary for the Visiting Librarian (Processing Archivist) is $61,000.

Qualifications

Eligible applicants must hold an MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent and have 1-2 years of experience working in archives, special collections, libraries, or other heritage organizations.

Additionally, applicants must have the following:

• 1-2 years of experience processing archival collections
• 1-2 years of experience with archival digitization and metadata creation
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to take initiative and work independently
• Demonstrated problem solving skills
• Ability to maintain consistent and usable project documentation
• Demonstrated knowledge of metadata and content standards and archival best practices (DACS, EAD, Dublin Core, MODS)
