Position Highlights |
The University of Arizona's College of Medicine - Tucson (COM-T) seeks a dynamic, nationally recognized leader to serve as the next chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery. Reporting directly to Geoffrey Gurtner, MD, FACS, Chair of the Department of Surgery, the chief will work collaboratively with the leaders of COM-T and Banner - University Medicine to build upon excellence in existing clinical, teaching, and team-based research programs and position the division for growth and transformation. The chief will have the opportunity to collaborate with our robust oncology and trauma teams for which plastic surgery is critical. The plastic surgery division has institutional financial support to start a plastic surgery residency program which is currently undergoing ACGME review. Divisional funds exist to support and further the academic mission. Duties & Responsibilities |
- The next chief of the Division of Plastics will have the opportunity to provide strategic leadership and direction for the growth of the division. They will set a clear vision and execute on this vision. This division chief will have the opportunity to advance the division through multidisciplinary clinical care, advanced and innovative surgical services, research, education, and service.
- The chief will inspire, develop, and lead an accomplished team of faculty and mentor trainees, drive the development of clinical programs, and create accountability in the division. They are expected to exhibit leadership and consensus-building within and beyond the division. To elevate the division to the next level, this leader will be expected to strategically recruit and retain talented faculty to support clinical growth, expand the division's research footprint, improve the national reputation of plastic surgery at UArizona and Banner Health, and ensure excellence in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
- The Division of Plastic Surgery is housed within the Department of Surgery. Faculty will provide clinical services and mentor trainees at Banner - University Medical Center Tucson, Banner - University Medical Center South.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Be an outstanding academic leader with a national/international reputation as an accomplished clinician, investigator, and educator.
- Have a track record of building relationships with community-based providers and working in complex systems.
- Have the ability to engage faculty, mentor the careers of others, and collaborate within a complex health care system.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Be a Full Professor or Associate Professor
- Hold an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent medical degree.
- Be eligible for medical licensure in Arizona.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience and comfort with complex microsurgical reconstruction.
- Have proven, substantial, and progressive leadership experience in an academic medical center.
