Job Details

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Project Lead Mechanic performs preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance on packaging equipment in the manufacturing area. Duties will include installation of new equipment, modifications and or upgrades to existing equipment and systems. This position will require strong interpersonal skills as well as the ability to train production and maintenance associates. This position is categorized as compliance critical and, as such, requires and is assigned specific responsibility for ensuring continual and proper compliance with all division, corporate and regulatory requirements. It is the associate's responsibility to observe all safety rules. Any condition thought to be hazardous or unsafe should be reported to your supervisor immediately.

Responsibilities:

  • Strong project management skills with ability to maintain schedules, manage vendors, and provide weekly progress updates.

  • Ability to perform maintenance, installation of new equipment, lead projects, train productions and maintenance associates as needed.

  • Strong interaction with vendors to ensure on time delivery, best pricing, cut sheets, data and manuals.

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements and adjustments on production equipment, conveyors, pumps, motors and pneumatic systems; following blueprints, diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.

  • Competent ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical aspects of thermormers, cold formers, cartoners, printers, serialization equipment, check weighers, vision systems, labelers, and other packaging equipment.

  • Experienced with high speed continuous and intermittent motion packaging equipment

  • Adheres to all cGMPs, safety regulations and Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Maintains good housekeeping throughout the shift in the work areas.

  • Works as a team member with other members of the AHP operations team to meet and/or exceed quality and production goals.

  • Responsible for being an active participant in continuous improvement activities to promote improved efficiency and effectiveness of the production line. Takes initiative in proposing and driving continuous improvement activities in the production area.

  • Must observe proper Lockout/Tag out and all safety procedures as required

  • Understand maintenance principles and develop self and department work practices to promote a proactive environment

  • Understand and utilize drawings, diagrams and equipment manufactures instructions

  • Troubleshoot electrical controls, motor circuits, single and three phase electrical systems.

  • Monitors equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies for repairs and projects.

  • Ensures all change controls have been submitted and approved

  • This position will require strong interpersonal skills with the facilities and purchasing groups.

  • Supports the launch, development, and ongoing maintenance of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

  • Place PO's to order material and track project cost.

  • Evaluate, track and leverage cost saving opportunities.

  • Adheres to and operates under 5S principles/guidelines for the promotion of efficient and effective operations.

Education:

Requires Associates degree, completion of vocational program or certification in maintenance/technical discipline or equivalent preferred. Requires completion of a high school diploma, general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of experience and education. Minimum ten (10) years of manufacturing maintenance experience required. Preferred experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or other regulated industry. Must have strong project management skills and an electrical and mechanical background with knowledge of generators, chillers, plc, air handling units, roof top air conditioning, pneumatics, clean room environment.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Previous Blister Machine maintenance experience is a required.

  • Ability to read and understand the English language for the purpose of reading documents, product labels and instructions.

  • Must possess basic mathematical skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

  • Strong organizational skills; detail oriented.

  • Ability to use good judgment in order to carry out detailed instructions.

  • Complete technical and operational knowledge of industrial mechanical components and systems. (Bearings, Pumps, Piping, pneumatics, carpentry, facility integrity...etc)

  • Complete technical and operational knowledge of industrial electrical and electronic equipment and systems. (single phase motors, 3-ph motors, AC Control equipment, DC control equipment, batteries and DC circuits, NFPA 70e, electrical measuring equipment, power supplies....etc.)

  • Complete understanding to troubleshoot complex automated systems controlled by computers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and microprocessors in a high-volume work environment.

  • Safe operating practice training for power tools and powered equipment

  • Complete Metal work capabilities. (measuring, cutting, arc welding, oxyfuel welding, tig welding..etc)

  • Ability to read, interpret, and create CAD layouts, illustrated parts breakdown (IPB) diagrams, and electrical circuitry diagrams and drawings.

  • Capable of creating project cost and project analysis reports.

  • Strong Project Management abilities

  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail

  • Strong prioritization and scheduling abilities

  • Strong aptitude for repair and maintenance activities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain cooperative working environment

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and knowledge of CAD preferred.

  • Excellent problem solving skills; ability to resolve issues effectively and efficiently

  • Knowledge of building automation systems such as Backtalk

  • Proactive problem solving skills; ability to recommend and implement solutions

  • Ability to operate independently, to multi-task, and to prioritize quickly

  • Ability to coach and train Maintenance Associates in all aspects of work scope

  • Ability to inspect work of Maintenance Associates

  • Trained and capable of assessing safety conditions and communicate corrective measures

  • Ability to make recommendations to improve service delivery based on customer feedback
