Position Highlights

The University of Arizona College of Health Sciences (COHS) is excited to welcome applicants for the role of Wellness Curriculum Development, Psychiatry for a developing international medical education program which will focus on primary care. The incumbent will report to the Director of Longitudinal Curriculum. This position will work with the University of Western Australia educational team to create the wellness curriculum that will be part of the longitudinal curriculum across all four years of a developing international medical education program. The incumbent will also work on other initiatives such as developing cultural safety, mental health, and personal well being initiatives for the COHS. In addition, this position will work with the research unit on the Clinical Learning Experience and Research (CLEaR) component of the curriculum.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and develop psychiatry curriculum that will be embedded within the longitudinal curriculum across all four years of a developing international medical education program.
  • Collaborate with curricular affairs to educate students on substance use disorders.
  • Coordinate the curriculum to align with accreditation standards and requirements.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Inclusion, develop a faculty guide to educate the teacher on how to effectively teach each session, address discussion points, learning objectives, etc. This may involve educating learners with limited resources provided in clinics and hospitals in rural and remote areas.
  • Guide student education so that appropriate learning is provided in a way that allows students to be familiar with approaches to mental health issues when caring for patients in rural and remote locations. Didactics and experiential learning at least once a week
  • Help prepare and and implement a plan for University of Arizona Health Sciences (UAHS) regarding suicide prevention and what to do if a suicide occurs in health professions for students, staff and faculty.
  • Develop ways to help ensure staff and students have an understanding and ability to look after their personal well-being.
  • Evaluate teaching programs in mental health at remote sites where UAHS students will rotate. This will require site visits.
  • In collaboration with Dean of Research, work with students to aid in the completion of their scholarly project in the CLEaR program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent, collaborative oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge in the design and development of needs assessment, curriculum design, evaluation and training delivery method.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles of adult education and active learning.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MD, DO or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Competed a residency in Psychiatry and be board certified or board eligible.
  • Experience in teaching medical students and curriculum development.
  • Successful candidate must be eligible for a faculty appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with competency-based educational approaches.
