Position Highlights The Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) is seeking applicants for part time Research Engineering Technician II positions. The candidates will assist with investigations of laminar turbulent transition of hypersonic boundary layers. The investigative tools are so-called direct numerical simulations and linear stability theory.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Under supervision of the PI and collaborating faculty, assist with investigations of laminar turbulent transition of hypersonic boundary layers.
  • Learn to perform literature reviews by keeping track of advances in the field.
  • Under supervision, learn to use direct numerical simulations and linear stability theory.
  • Under supervision of the PI, participate with co-authoring peer-reviewed conference papers, journal manuscripts, conference presentations, and posters.
  • Communicate results through written in reports and discussion in group meetings.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to support engineering functions of research projects and write technical reports (may involve some statistical analysis).
  • Participate with presenting at conferences, symposiums, and other various events as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge with programming, such as using Matlab, Python, C, C++, etc.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to handle assignments independently.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Experience working with C, C++ and/or Fortran
  • Prior work or internship experience in industry preferred though not required.
