Requisition 37722: Wayside Operations Carman Primary Responsibilities Norfolk Southern Railroad utilizes a sophisticated network of track side detectors to monitor the health of trains and freight cars as they traverse the system. This is a fast-paced analytical position that continuously monitors data. Strong computer technical and communication skills are required. In addition, a thorough knowledge of freight car systems is required. Extensive computer skills including Microsoft programs including but not limited to Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams. Job Requirements Physical Requirements Working in an office environment will require sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time -Computer based work requires constant attention to monitors and screens in an office setting -Heavy work, lifting to 50 pounds occasionally Skills and Abilities -Ability to interpret, understand and follow strict operating procedures and processes -Strong fluency working on a computer in various applications and systems to include typing and webb application navigation -Strong analytical mindset -Certified Freight Car Repair and inspection knowledge: This knowledge base enables the candidate to be successful in proper conceptualization of detector and defect data in real time and proper understanding of freight car components aids in determination of safe course of action and response. Minimum Qualifications -Strong Computer Skills -Strong Communication Skills -Strong Analytical Skills Preferred Qualifications -5-7+ Years Freight Car mechanical experience -Working Gang Leader / Shift Leader experience Compensation Data
Benefits Rate of Pay Work Conditions
Working hours will include shift work over all 3 shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are assigned/awarded by seniority.
