We are looking for anAdjunct Welding Instructorto join our team. As an Adjunct Welding Instructor at Indian River State College, you will play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of skilled welders. We are seeking a passionate and experienced individual who can contribute to both classroom instruction and hands-on lab training.

Our ideal candidate has a minimum of a high school diploma, with an associate degree or higher in a related field preferred, coupled with extensive welding experience, welding certifications, and can meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). You should be well-versed and knowledgeable about welding techniques and equipment and possess proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Teach in both Classroom and Lab Environments: You will be responsible for delivering lectures and practical demonstrations in welding techniques.

  • Demonstrate Welding Techniques: You will showcase various welding processes, safety protocols, and best practices along with providing real-world examples to enhance student understanding.

  • Participate in the Welding Advisory Committee: You will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry professionals, faculty, and other stakeholders as well as contribute to overall program development and improvement.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to teach in both classroom and lab environments

  • Demonstrate welding techniques

  • Maintain a safe learning environment in the welding lab at all times

  • Recommend purchases for welding activities

  • Overseeing equipment repairs

  • Monitor materials and supplies for lab and classroom activities

  • Assist with scheduling of welding classes

  • Recruit students for the welding program

  • Oversee the welding classroom and lab facilities

  • Oversee lab assistant's duties

  • Use all grading, retention, and Learning Management systems (Angel) in place at IRSC

  • Participate with Welding Advisory Committee

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Construct and deliver classroom lectures.

  • Demonstrate welding techniques and procedures.

  • Require safe welding practices at all times.

  • Recruit students.

  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and materials for the welding classroom and lab, with input from the Department Chair of Applied Technology.

  • Report any malfunctions or breakage of equipment to the proper staff.

  • Construct class syllabus.

  • Use Angel or other Learning Management System used by IRSC.

  • Maintain student files.

  • Provide student grades in a timely fashion.

  • Maintain student attendance records.

  • Manage lab tools and equipment to minimize theft and breakage.

  • Participate with Welding Advisory Committee.

  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess a high school diploma, with associate degree or higher in a related field preferred

  • Possess extensive welding experience.

  • Verified training or classroom experience.

  • Possess welding certifications

  • Demonstrated ability in welding and knowledge of welding techniques and equipment required.

  • Possess proficient computer skills including strong foundation in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
