Position Highlights |
The University of Arizona's division of Arizona Arts is seeking a Coordinator for Equity in the Arts Student Programs. The coordinator will support the division's efforts to build and sustain diverse and inclusive arts opportunities that foster participation and sense of belonging, with a particular emphasis on student populations that are historically underrepresented or experience marginalization in the fine arts and higher education. The coordinator will work closely with the Associate Vice President for Equity in the Arts and staff across Arizona Arts to implement vibrant student programs including the JustArts Fellowship, Mentoring in the Arts Professions (MAP), and Student Artist Live Opportunity Night (SALON). The coordinator will consult with students in designing opportunities that support connection, empowerment, and resilience and incorporate culturally resonant and identity-affirming practices that acknowledge the strengths of and challenges faced by underrepresented and marginalized students. Duties & Responsibilities |
I. Coordinate student-serving events and programs, including:
- Planning, implementing, and evaluating Equity in the
Arts student-serving events and programs. - Performing background research or evaluations to
identify appropriate programs and recommend changes in practices as needed. - Collecting data/information to assist in evaluating
programs and services and identify needs for additional programs or services. - Creating, organizing, and maintaining program
documentation.
II. Collaborate with various stakeholders to promote programs, including:
- Preparing content for communications specialists.
- Distributing program and marketing materials to
appropriate audiences. - Collaborating with Arizona Arts Division to provide
program and engagement data for assessment and institutional reporting.
III. Serve as a liaison between the office of Equity in the Arts and partners across the Arizona Arts Division, campus, and broader community, including:
- Coordinating outreach efforts to raise awareness of
student programs and resources available through Equity in the Arts. - Outreach to new students at Orientation, Wildcat
Welcome, Graduate Student Orientation, and other campus-wide and CFA-wide student events. - Meeting with leadership of cultural centers and
arts-affiliated student groups and advise AVP, Equity in the Arts and Arizona Arts D&I Committee members. - Other duties as assigned.
Nights and weekends as needed. Primarily on campus work required during the academic year, with some hybrid work opportunity. Remote work available in summer months. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of inclusion discourses and issues in the
fine arts and post-secondary arts education. - Skills in engendering and integrating the values of
diversity, inclusion, intersectionality and teamwork across various groups. - Strong organizational skills (time management,
communication, discretion, attention to detail). - Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
Publisher, Power Point), e-mail, survey tools (e.g., Google Forms, Qualtrics), and the Internet. - Ability to interact effectively across diverse teams,
partners, and experiences. - Ability to create and maintain relationships with
student and departmental groups through attending meetings, events, or completing necessary outreach. - An understanding of the disparate arts opportunities,
resources, and structures that affect students who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), first-generation, LGBTQIA+ and/or having a disability.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Two or more years of experience in developing arts programs and working directly with underrepresented populations.
- Experience overseeing student engagement and outreach efforts.
- Experience collaborating and community-building with groups of various sociocultural backgrounds.
- Experience coordinating and implementing long-range projects within a university or other complex organization.
- Experience in problem-solving that is grounded in socially just principles and inclusive practices.
