Position Highlights |
The School of Anthropology at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Archaeology to start in August 2025. We seek an anthropological archaeologist focusing on environmental research with an active field program, expertise in laboratory-based analyses that can provide hands-on training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, and the potential to offer a field school. We have a strong preference for scholars who are committed to working with Indigenous or marginalized communities in the continental US, Canada, or northern Mexico. Ideal candidates will also have strong commitments to interdisciplinary engagement and complement the School's existing intellectual strengths and pursuits. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Teach four 3-credit courses a year, a combination of undergraduate and graduate classes.
- Serve on reviews and thesis and dissertation committees for graduate students.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Research and publish, contributing to the field of anthropology at the national and international levels.
- Contribute to faculty governance and service at the program, school, college, university, and professional levels.
- Participate in outreach, student advising, recruitment, and other activities that enhance student engagement, increase diversity, and expand collaborations with community partners.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Interest in contributing to the university's General Education curriculum and/or online platforms for instructional delivery.
- Commitment to working with Indigenous or marginalized communities in the continental US, Canada, or northern Mexico.
- Commitments to interdisciplinary engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to develop research projects and publish in professional journals and presses.
- Knowledge of current theory, research methodology, and practice in the field.
- Ability to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in anthropology and archaeology.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Ph.D. or equivalent in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field by August 1, 2025.
- Ongoing environmental
research with an active field program and expertise in laboratory-based analyses.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Prior teaching experience at the university level.
- Track record or potential of public engagement, partnership-building, or outreach with diverse communities and/or schools.
- Expertise and research plans to compliment the School's existing intellectual strengths.
