The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia is seeking a Laboratory Specialist/Lab Specialist Intermediate to join Dr. Daniel "Trey" Lee's CAR-T cell lab. This position carries out research studies and assists in experiments for the laboratory of Dr. Lee, a pioneer in the use of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cells for the treatment of pediatric malignancies (PMID: 25319501). The focus of the Lee Lab is to develop and rapidly translate new CAR T cell therapies to the clinic through the initiation of investigator-initiated clinical trials at UVA, to develop novel regulatory components that minimize CAR toxicities while preserving anti-tumor efficacy, and to understand and overcome the mechanisms of CAR T cell resistance. The incumbent will develop, design and perform experiments supporting the goals of the lab in coordination with the PI and the Research Scientist. Research in the lab utilizes human patient and normal donor samples in addition to using small animal models of disease (required) and tumor cell lines. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience with cell culture and flow cytometry is necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel is required. Additional expertise in statistical and data analysis software, database software, and imaging and/or image analysis software is a plus. The incumbent also attends weekly meetings with the Principal Investigator to discuss experimental results, conducts literature searches, and presents results in lab meetings. The incumbent works under supervision, independently and ethically, documents all research data appropriately, and assists other members of the lab. The successful candidate will be expected to:
