The Stukenberg Lab at the University of Virginia Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics within the School of Medicine is hiring a Lab and Research Technician II or Lab Specialist. The lab specialist performs and assists with laboratory management and experimental procedures in Dr. Todd Stukenberg's laboratory. The Stukenberg lab focuses on cellular mechanisms of mitosis and how these are dysregulated during cancer progression. Most of the experiments are based on in vitro biochemistry and tissue culture cells. The experiments to be performed will be tailored to the candidates experience and needs of the lab. The goal will be to allow the candidate to grow as an experimentalist by increasing the complexity and the number of techniques they are responsible for over time. In addition, the candidate will handle sophisticated administrative and logistical tasks. Research employees operate under supervision with a degree of independence when following set protocols and procedures. What you will do:
Minimum Requirements: Lab and Research Technician II Education: Associate's degree Experience:At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience.Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience. Lab Specialist Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: 2 years of experience. 4 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree. Licensure: None. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation. This is a restricted position and continuation will be dependent on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
