Construction Materials Engineering Technician

Do you have some experience in construction materials testing and eager to continue growing your career working on a variety of projects, learning every day and obtaining more industry certifications? Join our team in Lexington, KY as we are looking for passionate, hard-working individuals to ensure the successful placement and use of soil, concrete, rebar, asphalt, aggregate, and other building materials meet industry standards and project specifications.

Your Day-to-Day:

As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will have a company vehicle to perform the field testing and observations of construction materials on project sites. It is our job to make sure it is "built right", and at S&ME we take that responsibility very seriously. You will have the opportunity to obtain additional certifications to help you advance in your career, perform more complex testing, take on more responsibilities, and mentor younger technicians.



  • Review construction plans and specifications to ensure seamless alignment with on-site observations
  • Conduct as well as observe testing and inspections of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials, to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards
  • Utilize advanced software like Metafield to document reporting and testing results
  • Calibrate equipment to industry standards to ensure precision in testing processes
  • Conduct Special Inspection observations to enforce regulatory compliance and quality assurance on projects
  • Maintain open communication with stakeholders to foster trust and transparency, driving the success of our projects



What You Bring:



  • A high school diploma/ GED
  • 2+ years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials or equivalent experience and an associate degree in a related field
  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • Any of the following certifications are a plus:

    • American Concrete Institute (ACI)

      • Field Testing Grade I
      • Strength Testing Technician
      • Laboratory Technician


    • International Code Council (ICC)

      • Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils).


    • DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete.





Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:



  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions walking over rough and uneven terrain
  • Standing up to 8+ hours a day based on project needs
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
