Description The on-site Employee Mental Health Support Specialist will provide evidence-based mental health support to employees at Children's National Hospital. This role may also involve some travel to additional Children's National locations on a limited basis.
Qualifications

Minimum Education
Master's Degree In counseling, social work, psychology, or related degree (Required) Or

Minimum Work Experience
3 years post graduate experience (Required)

Required Licenses
Independent Social Worker Must be licensed in the District of Columbia at minimum at the
LICSW-level (Required)

Or Psychologist Licensed in Washington, DC. (Required)

Or Licensed Professional Counselor (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Skilled in providing evidence-based treatments for individuals and groups (e.g., CBT, DBT, EFT, Mindfulness-based therapy, etc.)
Experienced in tracking mental health improvement and outcomes
Demonstrated ability to create new programs and interventions based on population mental health needs, preferably for hospital staff
Demonstrated understanding of social determinants of health (SDOH) and knowledge of community resources
Independent, open-minded, non-judgmental, compassionate, flexible
Excellent interpersonal skills (communication and listening)
Passionate about improving the mental wellbeing of healthcare workers and reducing the stigma of accessing mental health resources

Required Licenses and Certifications

Functional Accountabilities
Mental Health Support



  • Provide crisis intervention tools and resources for employees in immediate mental health distress while maintaining confidentiality and privacy at all times.


  • Provide input on strategy for 24/7 mental health crises management across all locations.


  • Work to reduce the stigmas of accessing mental health services throughout the clinical and non-clinical employees at CNH by building rapport and trusting relationships with managers and front-line caregivers.


  • Round on units to determine in-the-moment needs for mental and emotional support and deliver appropriate support interventions.


  • Provide proactive mental health training and education including coping with grief and loss, reacting to trauma, windows of tolerance, how to decompress on the job, etc.


  • Provide evidence-based tools to teams who have experienced a trauma at work in a group setting.


  • Educate employees requiring specialized behavioral health treatment on how to access available resources and follow up as needed.


  • Facilitate employee support groups.


  • Employ evidence-based outcome tracking and timely data reporting as requested.


  • Serve as mental health subject matter expert for employee-related organizational procedures and workgroups (fitness for duty, ADA).


  • Comply with relevant employer policies (such as safety, vaccinations, and infections disease protocols).
