JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Great Valley's Information Technology Support (ITS) Help Desk department is seeking part-time User Support Specialists that are resourceful, good problem solvers, fast learners, and enjoy working with and helping staff, faculty, students, and external clients.

Work hours are 10-24 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, and some Saturdayson-site at the Great Valley Campus in Malvern, PA.These openings do offer some flexibility with hours and work schedules.Questions about hours and schedules should be directed to the hiring manager.

The ITS Help Desk provides computer support to the Penn State Great Valley campus community over the phone, in person, and via email. Calls range from "How can I reset my access account?" to "How do I simultaneously display my laptop to the projector screen?" to "How can I enable wireless network on my laptop?" Our Help Desk Specialists are supported by three full-time ITS professionals. Our part-time staff have the opportunity every day to be challenged, learn new technologies, help customers and co-workers with questions, and interact with professional colleagues in a diverse and high-energy work environment.

Part-time Help Desk Specialists will have the opportunity to perform classroom technology support, troubleshoot hardware and workstation problems, learn and test new applications and AV systems, and are exposed to many of the different technologies at Penn State University.

As a Help Desk Specialist, you will have the opportunity to learn and perform a variety of tasks, including answering questions over the phone and helping walk-in's that visit the Help Desk in-person with all their computer needs, in addition to supporting AV for some conferencing events. Our IT team will train you in the various areas that we support and will provide you with practical knowledge and professional development. In return, we ask that you bring your knowledge, experience, ideas as well as your customer service, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills to help us provide the best technology support possible.

Requirements and Qualifications

Candidates for these openings should be energetic and enthusiastic about working on and learning about computer and AV technologies.

The requirements for this also include:
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

  • Experience working in various technical environments. Experience in PC and MAC environments is a plus.

  • The ability to work 10-24 hours a week, Monday through Thursday (preferably in the evenings) and some Saturday's.

  • The opening is based at the Great Valley Campus located in Malvern, PA; on-site work is expected.
