JOB SUMMARY

The Attending Physician IX-SC will provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients on both the inpatient neurology stroke service and the outpatient neurology clinics. The physician participates in educational and quality improvement initiatives of the Division of Neurology and the Stroke Program.

Typical Duties



  • Meets and maintains the standards of hospital staff membership as set forth in the Medical Staff By-Laws
  • Manages patient care in a compassionate, respectful manner consistent with the highest standards of neurologic care
  • Maintains current knowledge in the practice of Neurology and Stroke
  • Maintains current, active, Illinois physician licensure
  • Maintains federal and state-controlled substance licensure
  • Maintains Neurology board certification
  • Maintains Vascular Neurology board certification
  • Meets Illinois requirements for Continuing Medical Education
  • Meets hospital requirements for Annual Training, Infection Control and Respiratory Testing
  • Charts patient care in a complete, accurate, and professional manner
  • Completes patient encounter notes in a timely manner
  • Completes all requested pharmacy, insurance, disability, and other forms associated with medical care of patients
  • Responds to pages, patient phone calls and other communications in at timely way
  • Completes evaluations of residents and students in a timely manner
  • Maintains constructive, positive relationships with physicians, nurses and other hospital staff
  • Evaluates and treats patients on the inpatient Neurology stroke service and in the outpatient Neurology clinics
  • Completes a detailed history and physical exam (including neurological exam) on patients referred to the Neurology service and outpatient neurology clinic
  • Works at all Cook County Health Neurology inpatient and outpatient sites including Blue Island, Stroger Hospital and Provident Hospital
  • Provides high-quality telestroke coverage to all patients referred to the Cook County Health telestroke program
  • Serves as a role model in consistently providing effective and compassionate patient care; adhering to policies; and manifesting respectful and professional behavior, scholarly inquiry and commitment to self- and institutional improvement
  • Regularly attends and participates in divisional and departmental administrative meetings
  • Participates in or leads structured quality improvement activities related to hospital function, as assigned
  • Collaborates with the Stroke Program including the Stroke Coordinator and Medical Director of the Stroke Program to maintain Joint Commission requirements for accreditation as a stroke center
  • Monitors and responds to lab results, patient messages and patient phone calls
  • Performs other duties as assigned



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS




  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited American or Canadian Medical School
  • Must be licensed as a physician in the State of Illinois or the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment
  • Illinois and Federal Controlled Substance License or the ability to obtain prior to starting employment
  • Successful completion of a residency in Neurology accredited by the American College of Graduate Medical Education
  • Board Certification in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology OR Board Eligible with achievement of the certification within three years of completion of residency training
  • Board Certification in Vascular Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology OR Board Eligible with achievement of certification within three years of completion of fellowship training
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bilingual
  • Clinical experience with a focused neurology rotation during electives or previous job experience within the field of Neurology

  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Ability to do moderate lifting up to 45 pounds, to walk and stand for prolonged periods to use hands, legs, and fingers
  • Ability to effectively communicate while maintaining HIPAA for PHI
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast paced and stressful environment
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged
  • Ability to take initiative, work with or without direct supervision

Must successfully meet the credentialing standards established by the Cook County Health and Hospitals System to include a State of Illinois MD license and any other license, certification, or specialized training, etc. no later than two (2) weeks prior to the candidate's start date
