Assistant or Associate Professor of Development Economics, Cornell SC Johnson College of Business

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applications from qualified individuals for a position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in the Applied Economics and Policy (AEP) area with an intended start date of July 1, 2025. The position will be based in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management and based in Ithaca, NY.

The responsibilities of the position include producing high-quality research in the field of development economics; graduate student supervision, including the ability to guide field research in low- and middle-income countries; teaching introductory and advanced courses for various undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the college; and service to the academic community, the AEP area, the SC Johnson College of Business, and the University at large. Securing external research grants or contracts, as well as public outreach to help translate research into real world impact, are also strongly encouraged.

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. or be on track to completing one by summer 2025, in economics or a related field, with a strong record of applied research in development economics and in teaching.

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson), the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (Dyson), and the Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan). The Dyson School offers Cornell's undergraduate business program, and is home to graduate (MPS, MS, and PhD) programs in applied economics and management. It is expected that our faculty teach across multiple schools within the College of Business.

Dyson houses a top-ranked undergraduate business program as well as graduate programs that award Ph.D., M.S. and M.P.S. degrees. In addition to this position's core focus on international and development economics (IDE), other areas of active faculty research within Dyson also include strategy and business economics; operations technology and information management; marketing; management; food and agricultural economics; finance; environmental, energy and resource economics; and accounting. Strong links to one or more of these other research fields hold particular appeal. Faculty members in the Dyson School frequently collaborate with colleagues in Computer and Information Sciences, Economics, Engineering, Global Development, Natural Resources, Nutrition, Public Policy, and other units on campus. The College leads the cross-campus Collaboration for International Development Economics Research (CIDER), with which this hire is invited to affiliate. CIDER affords access to a pool of pre-docs, external implementing partners, grants writing and management support, and additional opportunities for training and professional development.
