Chief Technology Officer, Electrification

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the local staff and manage operations of ABB's US research center located in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States. You will support local, regional, and global businesses through the exploration and development of new concepts, technologies, technology platforms, and intellectual property relevant to ABB.
The work model for the role is: onsite
As Head of ABB's US research center, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing innovative research initiatives, aligning them with the company's strategic goals, and driving technological advancements. This role requires managing a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers, working closely with company stakeholders, and fostering external partnerships to translate new technologies to business solutions.
You will be mainly accountable for:
*Building and maintaining an innovative culture by attracting, motivating, developing, and retaining creative scientists, experts, and specialists to ensure the US research center is staffed with top/world-class talent.
*Supporting and overseeing the development and transfer of technology and knowledge between the US research center and internal partners including ABB Divisions and relevant R&D teams.
*Planning capacity, people, resources, and facility capabilities to execute research projects and long-term technology explorations.
*Networking and collaborating with external partners including universities, government and industry research agencies, and other technology partners and suppliers to enhance ABB's research insights, access, & engagements.

Qualifications for the role
  • Masters degree in Engineering or Science required
  • PhD in Engineering or Science discipline preferred.
  • 15+ years of Management experience in a technical field required.
  • Passion for science, technology and sustainability and readiness in participating in shaping the future.
  • Management and leadership experience with a track record of talent identification and development.
  • Academic or high-tech engineering management background, preferably PhD.
  • Customer and business/market orientation combined with the ability to create and maintain strong networks.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with various external and internal partners.
  • Self-driven, resilient, enthusiastic personality. Ability to think outside-the-box and always delivering pragmatic solutions to daily challenges. Can-do mentality. High quality advocacy and inquiry.
  • Good verbal and written English skills are required.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
