What you will do
Role Overview:

The Tax Provision Senior Associate will assist with preparation of US, Canadian, Mexican income tax provisions, the estimated tax projection, and Canadian corporate and partnership income tax returns. You will research issues relating to federal and state tax matters.

Main responsibilities:

  • Prepare quarterly tax provisions and deferred tax calculations to ensure deferred tax balances are accurately reported
  • Prepare quarterly tax provision's effective tax rate computations
  • Interact with Accounting Department staff and other departments as needed to ensure that the Tax Department obtains all information needed for the tax provision calculation and reporting
  • Prepare projected income tax estimates under various assumptions
  • Prepare Canadian corporate and partnership income tax returns and withholding tax returns
  • Provide due diligence support to M&A and portfolio management departments including review of cost segregation studies
  • Research Canadian corporate and partnership income tax issues and identify ways to optimize tax obligations
  • Additional duties as required

What are we looking for
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years in public or industry experience including 2+ years in preparing or reviewing tax provisions
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state corporate and partnership taxation
  • In depth understanding of accounting principles
  • Knowledgeable with SOX Act regulations
  • Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing products preferred; Strong Microsoft Excel skills (knowledge of complex functions and formulas)
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise preferred

Travel:

Up to 10%

  • Ability to consistently meet non-flexible deadlines which may include working overtime when needed
  • Ability to be self-motivated
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Energy industry experience preferred

Physical demands & working conditions:

  • Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment
  • Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
