SUMMARY

Responsible for the production of editorial content of a B2B/member magazine and its associated website. This includes

lead generation, interviewing, writing, copyediting, tracking, gathering photos and videos.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Assist in determining the editorial content for a B2B/member magazine and associated website according to the publication's style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements.
  • Assist in the development of content in other mediums for the magazine, including podcast episodes, videos, and webcasts.
  • Planning and writing or assigning feature-length articles, departments, captions and pull quotes for each issue of the magazine and associated website.
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts to identify and coordinate technical articles from outside authors.
  • Hiring and working closely with freelance writers on story assignments, including preliminary research, assistance with sources, story angles/topics, plot hooks, and revising drafts.
  • Responsible for copyediting articles from authors, technical editors, and in-house, and freelance sources.
  • Locating and securing usage permission of publication-quality photos, including occasional cover photos.
  • Collaborating with the Graphics Department on design issues and article layouts.
  • Proofing magazine layout to ensure accuracy of spelling, punctuation, grammar, style, content, jumps, captions, liability issues; verifying that all contact information is accurate and correct.
  • Establish and maintain a network of industry contacts to remain continuously aware of cutting-edge issues, technologies, and projects, including networking actively at industry events.
  • Engaging industry experts and AMPP members to ensure that magazine content is relevant and appropriate regarding editorial calendar and meeting industry needs and concerns.
  • Coordinating reader outreach programs, including magazine award programs and feedback events.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Must coordinate and supervise the work of freelance writers on an ongoing basis.


Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This role requires up to 25% travel, a valid driver's license and passport are required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE




  • Associates or bachelor's degree preferred in Journalism, English, or a related field



  • College degree may be substituted by a high school diploma, or equivalent, and 3-5 years' experience.



  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in editing and writing, preferably in an industrial, construction, or technical field.




LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members, employees of the organization, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to interpret bar graphs and pie charts. Also, must be able to convert standard US measurements to metric system.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Must possess a specific level of communication skill both verbal and written. Demonstrated personnel management skills including, but not limited to, the ability to evaluate staff performance and provide direction, is highly desirable. Ability to work in a multi-task environment taking into account various external factors and to communicate efficiently and accurately to both managers/supervisors and subordinate staff. Must be computer literate with knowledge and experience in word processing and spreadsheet softwares. Ability to learn and use association specific software.
