Performs clerical functions on the patient care unit and/or other patient care areas as needed during downtime. 2. Assembles patient records. 3. Files and documents patient information, i.e., Laboratory and X-ray reports. 4. Keeps records up-to-date, in order, and supplied with appropriate forms. 5. Transcribes physician orders accurately and timely. 6. Facilitates effective communication and coordinates unit activities. 7. Answers telephone appropriately and courteously, triage calls. 8. Takes and relays messages in a timely manner. 9. Places calls as requested to physicians, and other professional or ancillary services. 10. Greets and directs visitors, physician, and staff from other departments. 11. Assists in facilitation of patient flow through the department, taking the appropriate steps to report and resolve issues. 12. Opens, sorts and routes mail accurately and in a timely manner. 13. Assembles medical records, lab, and radiological reports. 14. Assists with quality assurance/improvement projects. 15. Enters laboratory and radiological orders into computerized order entry system. 16. Distributes staff memos/mail. 17. Orders patient dietary needs. 18. Files patient records, ensures appropriate records faxed to PMD. 19. Orders, receives and stocks required inventory of stationery, and forms (supplies for pediatric patients, linen, sterile supplies, food, and kitchen supplies as requested). 20. Assists the Director by performing administrative duties as requested. 21. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, and according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures, assists the professional nurse in the collection of data and in the care and treatment of patients. 22. Accurately and as directed obtains and records patient data; vital signs, 12 lead EKGs, testing of specimens, patient weights and measurements, Intake and Output. 23. Assists patients with activities of daily living, feeding, personal hygiene, etc. 24. Assists with positioning, turning, and range of motion exercises. 25. Performs blood draws as required in the Emergency Department. 26. Assists the nurse and/or physician with invasive procedures and special tests. 27. Transports patients, equipment, supplies specimens, etc., as requested. 28. Measures patients for air casts, crutches, immobilizers, and slings, and other orthopedic devices and applies it appropriately and accurately. 29. Reports status and/or changes in patient condition to supervising registered nurse or physician appropriately and in a timely manner. 30. Ensures proper usage of personal protective equipment for Hazmat situations. 31. Documents patient care activities accurately and completely and according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. 32. Appropriately assembles, sets up, and cleans equipment for various procedures. 33. Cleans and restocks patient rooms and supply and equipment rooms/carts. Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities: 1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. 2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed. 3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations. 4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements. 5. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors. 6. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance. 7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed. All responsibilities are essential job functions. II. Position Qualifications: License/Certification/Education: Required: 1. High School Diploma/GED. 2. Current Basic Life Support Certification required within 30 days of hire. 3. Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, nursing school student, or equivalent to work in the ICU. 4. Workplace violence certification required for Emergency Department. 5. Current Basic EMT Licensure or recent relevant healthcare experience to work in the Emergency Department. Preferred: 1. Medical Assistant certification. 2. Respiratory therapy training. Experience/Skills: Required: 1. Ability to life patients and move heavy objects by pushing or pulling as required. 2. Computer skills. 3. Medical terminology. 4. Demonstrated ability to read, write, and converse in clear and concise English and to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and families, both verbally and written. 5. Manual dexterity. 6. Excellent interpersonal skills. 7. Demonstrated prioritization and organizational skills. Preferred: 1. Minimum one (1) year of experience working in a healthcare setting in an Emergency Department or Critical Care environment. 2. Experience with Epic computer system. Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents. III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions: Constantly: Working Indoors Precise Hearing required, and Precise Vision required; Carrying - Less than 10 pounds. Frequently: Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Bending, Kneeling, Reaching, Grasping, Performing Repetitive Movements, Precise Motor Skills required; Lifting and Pushing - Less than 10 pounds and Over 100 pounds, and Pulling - Over 100 pounds. Often: Sitting, Twisting, Balancing, Working at Heights, High Level of Stress; Lifting and Pushing - 10 pounds to 20 pounds and 50 pounds to 100 pounds, Carrying - 10 pounds to 20 pounds, Pulling - Less than 10 pounds to 100 pounds. Never: Climbing, Crawling, Working Outdoors, Working in Temperature Extremes; Lifting - 20 pounds to 50 pounds, Carrying - 20 pounds to Over 100 pounds and Pushing - 20 pounds to 50 pounds.
