Medical Laboratory Scientist I - Olean, NY

Department: General Lab

Schedule: Night, 4 X 10 hour shifts, rotational weekends (every other)

$5,000 Sign on Bonus Available! (External applicants only)

Pay Range: $23.34 - $38.51 / hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Performtest procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility in those specialties in which they are qualified by education, training and experience.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test result.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
  • Review and release test results.
  • Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in their respective guidelines.
  • Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correct the problems encountered or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required WorkExperience:

Minimum one (1) year full-time experience or training(high complexity testing)in a clinical laboratory settingfor those with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology

Preferred Work Experience:

One (1) year full-time experience or training(high complexity testing)in a clinical laboratory settingpreferred.

Knowledge:

  • Basic theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty required.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.

Skills:

  • Must be detail-oriented,have the ability towork independently, establish work priorities and to handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum department efficiency.
  • Interpersonal skillsnecessaryto deal courteously andeffectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
  • Communication skills necessary to handle telephone inquiries from clients.
  • Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.

Bachelor's Degree(Required)

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS
ASCP Certification
