Positions available and qualifications: EMT:

Summary: Performs duties described in the United States Department of Transportation/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration position description for EMT including responding to requests from the public for emergency medical assistance, examining, assessing and stabilizing patients at the point of call and during transport to the appropriate point of entry.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
2. Certified in CPR - Basic Rescue by either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
3. Valid driver license.

Experience/Skills:
Required:

1. Experienced in accident scene management and control.
2. Demonstrated ability to work well under often stressful situations.
3. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
4. Effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred:
1. Minimum one year of experience in an urban EMS service integrated with a municipal first response system.

EMT Paramedic:

Police Sergeant:

Summary: The primary function of the Police Sergeant is to plan, organize, direct and supervise the operations and activities of a team of police officers and civilian personnel assigned to the Patrol Division. The Sergeant also performs police duties including patrol, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, criminal investigation, and community service. The Sergeant will direct employee performance and assist with organizational development processes, will serve as a positive role model within the Department and as an exemplary representative to the UMass Memorial Community. The Sergeant will also promote teamwork in support of the Department's goals and activities and will mentor and coach employees and should bring an innovative approach to supervision and leadership.

Position Qualifications:

Equivalent to two years college education plus additional specialized courses are required. Minimum of five years experience is required. Must have proven leadership skills to mentor and motivate staff. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Must have good communications skills and be able to deal with the general public. Ability to work under stressful conditions and maintain a calm composure. Special Police powers required. Class A license to carry firearms in Massachusetts required. Licenses must be kept current under MCL CH 22C Section 63, First Responder. CPR, Drivers License, OCAT and in-service classes required.

Public Safety Officer:

Summary: Provide security for the safety and protection of Harrington Memorial Hospitals patients, staff, general public, and properties. Patrols, periodically, buildings and grounds of, Harrington Memorial Hospital. Examines doors, windows, and other points of entry to determine that they are secure. Tags and records all points of entry found unlocked or unsecured.Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts, in accordance to applicable laws.Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of Hospital property.
Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and other acts of suspicious instances.Records all incidents in writing or electronic media.Assists local authorities with investigation of incidents committed on Hospital properties.Reports all criminal acts to the Chief of Security and or local authorities.Assists Hospital staff as required providing protection and safety to patients or other individuals.Adheres to all general orders and or special orders as directed by the Chief of Security.

Police Officer:

Summary: It is the responsibility of a UMass Memorial Police Officer to enforce the policies of the medical center and the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The police officer will conduct foot and vehicle patrols, perform traffic duties, conduct investigations, promote crime prevention and assist with community service. The officer will make lawful arrests in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws and provide court testimony when necessary.

Required:

1. Equivalent to high school education plus addition specialized courses.
2. Officers must have completed the MA Special State Police academy, a MA certified Municipal Academy, or the 242 hour Reserve/Intermittent Academy in combination with an Associate's Degree or higher in Criminal Justice or as an Auxillary/Seasonal officer in a MA Municipality for two or more years.
3. First Responder, CPR, Driver's License, OCAT and in-service classes required.
4. Class A license to carry firearms in Massachusetts required.
5. Officers must successfully complete the annual firearms training.

Experience/Skills:

1. Minimum of one (1) year of prior law enforcement experience required.
2. Must have good communication skills and be able to deal with the general public.
3. Must also be able to work under sometimes-stressful conditions and maintain a calm composure.

Preferred:
1. Three (3) years of prior law enforcement experience preferred.

Public Safety Assistant:

Summary: Under the general supervision of the Police Sergeant or designee, the Public Safety Assistant is responsible for assisting, monitoring, and responding to security needs within the medical center. The Public Safety Assistant will focus on deterring crime and protecting the organization's property, assets, and people

Required:
1. Equivalent to high school education plus addition specialized courses.
2. Valid Massachusetts License to operate motor vehicle
3. CPR/First Aid certification

Experience/Skills:

Required:
1. 2 years of experience and/or previous formal training in public safety or customer service area
2. Communication skills necessary to interact with employees, patients, visitors, and the general public.
3. Must also be able to work under sometimes-stressful conditions and maintain a calm composure.
Preferred:
1. Three (3) years of prior public safety experience.
