I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Under the general direction of the AVP of Diagnostic Services, coordinates the daily functioning of the Ultrasound staff, consistent with Hospital expectations and departmental policies and procedures.
a. Distributes and monitors the flow of work for an assigned group of employees.
b. Coordinates the staffing schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels are managed including on-call and holidays. Completes weekly payroll activities in the payroll system.
c. Assists management in ensuring assigned employees are provided with appropriate resources, materials, and methods.
d. Provides recommendations to management for the most efficient utilization of assigned resources to ensure proper coverage, caseloads, and appropriate patient care.
e. Relays work instruction from management.
f. Provides ongoing training and education in clinical skills to staff members in conjunction with the AVP of Diagnostic Imaging.
g. Provides input to performance appraisals and disciplinary process.

2. Properly performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations, consistent with the age of the patient, in in-patient or outpatient settings, in compliance with departmental and professional standards and protocols.
a. Gathers pertinent clinical data and maintains accurate patient records.
b. Accurately completes all records, paperwork, and billings and submits promptly.
c. Positions and transfers patients appropriately and assist physicians with interventional exams.
d. Promptly and properly completes exams, performs QC to images, and send exams to PACS for review by the radiologist.
e. Assists the radiologists with ultrasound guided interventional procedures.
f. Follows Universal protocol in accordance with hospital policy and procedures.
g. Assists in maintaining an orderly inventory and in arranging the purchase of needed supplies.
h. Monitors equipment to ensure that it remains in proper working order and ensures that proper supplies are available as needed.
i. Utilizes proper sterilization and cleansing of all probes according to department policy and procedures.
j. Assists with other job-related duties including urgent requests and scheduling.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) registered in at least one category required
2. Graduate of accredited school of Ultrasonography or Radiological Technology required

Preferred:
1. Associates Degree preferred

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Minimum three (3) years of experience in diagnostic ultrasound under the direction of a qualified physician, preferably in a hospital setting
2. Previous lead/supervisory experience
3. Knowledge consistent with outlines in ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation
4. Displays good communication skills, initiative, versatility, and positive interpersonal skills
5. Demonstrated ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting, collaborating with peers to produce optimum results
6. Verbal and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate with coworkers, patients, and families
OR equivalent combination of the above

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

Position covers both the Maternal Fetal Medicine and the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility clinic. Position is Monday-Friday with rotating Saturday coverage. 630am-7p.
