Position Summary

The
Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology is seeking a
self-motivated and organized individual to work with the ROSE and PREC
programs. These programs provide summer research opportunities for
science teachers (ROSE) and undergraduate majors (PREC). This is a term
position for up to two years.

Specific job requirements include:

  1. Provides
    specialized administrative support in the development, implementation,
    and marketing of ROSE and PREC program function. This includes: Planning
    and scheduling of programmatic needs including but not limited to
    events, lunches, ceremonies, lectures, housing, and poster session, as
    well as participant stipends.
  2. Serves
    as a central point of contact between students, faculty, staff, other
    departments, and/or external constituencies on day-to-day programmatic,
    operational, and administrative matters; assists with seminars,
    meetings, special projects, and/or general problem resolution.
  3. Coordinates
    activities of support staff, consultants, faculty, and/or volunteers
    engaged in implementation and administration of program objectives.
  4. Monitors
    and administers program revenues and expenses; may develop or
    participate in the development of funding proposals for the program.
  5. Writes,
    edits, and coordinates development of promotional materials,
    educational materials, training materials, newsletters, and/or
    brochures, as appropriate to the program.
  6. Maintains
    program/project records, researches information and gathers and
    computes various data; prepares special and/or one-time reports,
    summaries, or replies to inquiries, selecting relevant data from a
    variety of sources.
  7. Performs
    or delegates clerical and administrative support tasks, including
    creation, typing, and editing of program correspondence, purchasing
    documents, reports, program handbooks, and other publications.
  8. May
    assist with grant and/or proposal writing as appropriate to the
    objectives and funding nature of the program; may participate in other
    fundraising activities.
  9. May
    perform specialized activities of a programmatic nature in direct
    support of the accomplishment of program objectives and protocol.
  10. While
    not a responsibility at this time, may supervise student employees,
    volunteers and/or interns; may lead lower-graded staff.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Plans
and coordinates the day-to-day fiscal, administrative, and operational
activities of a narrowly defined, contract or grant funded
program/project or set of funded activities. The program/project is
usually focused to a single purpose, may be scientific, research,
educational, or service oriented, and may exist as a subset of an
integrated, grant-funded program activity. Duties typically include
assisting with grant planning and administration, fiscal, budgetary,
and/or other associated transactions, program implementation and
administration, internal and external operational/administrative
liaison, program marketing, and reporting.

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Grant management experience.
  • Familiarity with UNM systems and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
