Position Summary

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to work as a member of the Faculty Research Development Office to increase the diversity, quality, volume, and success rates of UNM-submitted proposals for external funding. The successful candidate will work with Faculty Research Support Officers (FRSOs) to prepare proposals for external funding, assisting researchers in developing the non-technical portions of proposals. Core tasks for this position include the development and evaluation of budgets, budget justifications, the development of records in UNM's research administration software and sponsor portals and helping ensure that proposals address all sponsor-required criteria. The successful candidate will have effective problem-solving skills, be highly organized and detail-oriented, work effectively as part of a team, have strong communication skills both written and verbal, and manage multiple activities with firm deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Reviews and interprets sponsor guidelines to develop detailed proposal preparation guidance, checklists, and timelines.

2. Provides independent guidance to faculty, staff, and administration in the development and preparation of external proposals including budgets, internal documentation, sponsor forms, coordination of subaward packages and interpretation of funding requirements.

3. Provides independent guidance to faculty, staff, and administration in UNM proposal development and submission processes.

4. Accurately develops proposal records in UNM's research administration software (Streamlyne) and prepares proposal applications in sponsor portals, as needed.

5. Develops and Reviews grant budgets for correct calculation of expenditure categories such as salaries, percent of effort, salary adjustment increases, fringe benefits, indirect costs, materials, and equipment.

6. Prepares and delivers scheduled instruction and ad hoc training, as required, for University administrators, faculty, and staff on contract and grant development.

7. Serve as a liaison between the PI and the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), as appropriate.

8. Tracks all planned and pending grant and contract applications using existing tracking and project management tools.

9. Supports administration of UNM's internal and limited competitions.

10. Performs other miscellaneous administrative duties for FRDO, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's or advanced degree + 3 years of professional experience in research administration or sponsored programs administration either in a sponsoring or recipient organization

* Ability to independently identify and utilize available resources to problem-solve and find answers to questions

* Effective written and verbal communication skills

* Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects

* Experience preparing federal grant submissions

* Ability to communicate professionally with faculty in an array of disciplines that use diverse methodological approaches
