Job Summary

Under the supervision and guidance of the Principal Investigator and Clinical Research Supervisor at the UCSF Memory and Aging Center (MAC) RabLab the Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator (ACRC) will serve as a liaison between PET Program staff, researchers, other research collaborators and clinicians from the MAC, and research participants by performing entry-level duties related to the support and coordination of single- and multi-site clinical trials and observational studies in the field of neurodegenerative disease. Duties include assisting with the preparation and sharing of clinical and imaging results at multi-disciplinary clinical meetings and with participants and their families or caregivers; assisting with data visualization tasks (tables, figures, graphs) for presentations, manuscripts and grant applications; maintaining the database of imaging studies and results; triaging data requests and preparing data and protocols for collaborators and human research committees. Additional administrative tasks may be assigned as needed to help design flow sheets, data forms, and other types of source documents. The ACRC is not required to have specialized training to perform these duties and candidate will be trained on-the-job to meet the responsibilities of the position.

Department Description

The Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is a clinical research unit within the UCSF Department of Neurology that investigates the clinical (neurological, cognitive, behavioral, neuroanatomic) characteristics of various neurodegenerative diseases. The Primary Investigator's (PI) research within the MAC focuses on the decision-making processes in patients with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Alzheimer's Disease (AD), primary progressive aphasia (PPA), and other neurodegenerative disorders.

Our laboratory is under the scientific direction of Dr. Gil Rabinovici, MD and Dr. Renaud La Joie, PhD. The lab's mission is to advance the understanding of heterogeneous neurodegenerative diseases using novel molecular imaging tools and other biomarkers, with the goal of developing personalized care and tailored treatments for people with cognitive impairment and dementia. We are housed within the UCSF Memory and Aging Center (MAC) in the Department of Neurology. Along with conducting our own research program, we serve as the PET Imaging Core for the larger MAC community and for several ongoing, multi-site research studies and clinical trials. The MAC is directed by Dr. Bruce Miller and includes specialists from a wide variety of disciplines-including neurology, neuropsychology, geriatrics, geropsychiatry, pharmacy, nursing, social work, and speech pathology-who work together to evaluate patients, design care and treatment plans, refer patients for enrollment in research and clinical trials, and foster community engagement and equitable access to clinical care and research involvement. MAC investigators evaluate and care for people with declining memory and cognitive capabilities due to a wide spectrum of neurodegenerative diseases associated with aging, including Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal syndrome, rapidly progressive dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, and Huntington's disease.

Required Qualifications

• HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities or equivalent training/experience
• Demonstrated interest in cognitive neuroscience or neurodegenerative disease (as shown by coursework or previous work/volunteer experience).
• Ability to work well independently and as part of multiple teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work flexibly and effectively in a fast-paced environment to meet project goals and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related area and/or sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Basic knowledge of neurobiology and brain anatomy.
• Previous experience with data management.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication when drafting study documents and engaging with colleagues, participants, and their families.
• Experience working closely with patients and their families, particularly within the geriatric population.
• Knowledge of IRB protocols, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
• Familiarity with medical terminology.
• Basic knowledge of neurobiology and brain anatomy.
• Previous experience with data management.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication when drafting study documents and engaging with colleagues, participants, and their families.
• Experience working closely with patients and their families, particularly within the geriatric population.
