Finance personnel on the Finance Strategy & Solutions team within Business Affairs successfully manage unit budgets, finances, and complex business and financial matters. Members of this team strive to provide excellent financial and business support to administrators and staff in the units we partner with to accomplish the university mission. This position will support a portfolio of support units at the university with their financial needs while also collaborating within the larger finance community of Business Affairs. A successful candidate will apply general business theory and principles to daily operations. This position will work with a Director to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance and within established policies, procedures, and priorities. Duties & Responsibilities |
Financial Monitoring and Collaboration:
- Monitor financial statements to ensure the integrity and reliability of financial information.
- Identify financial risks and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Work with departments to identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation.
- Foster collaboration across multiple financial functions to streamline processes and improve overall efficiency.
- Provide financial guidance and recommendations to enhance overall fiscal performance.
- Provide
Budget to Actuals, Profit and Loss, Balance statements and cash flow reports to operational lead or unit director where appropriate. - May
prepare presentations on departmental budgets to stakeholders, offering insightful explanations of financial strategies and outcomes. - Review departmental operating budgets for proper application of fund management principles.
Financial Reporting:
- Create and analyze monthly reports used to monitor fund or operational activities.
- Prepare financial and other ad hoc analyses as needed.
- Identify, retrieve, and analyze financial information from various enterprise systems.
- Utilize
advanced analytics to extract actionable insights from financial data, supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization. - Provide data to support market trend analysis, pricing, resource allocation, cost optimization etc.
- Complete financial forecasting, planning, and modeling of finances aligned with the university fiscal calendar.
Budget Adjustments and Training:
- Prepare and analyze income and expense actuals against planned allocations for assigned funds or units.
- Assist divisions and departments in the development and implementation of complex annual multi-year budgets and reports.
- Serve as an expert budget resource to division and departmental leaders.
- Train staff on financial processes, analysis, enterprise systems nuances and related activities.
- Serve on departmental committees and assist with special projects.
Financial Transaction Processing and Approval:
- Serve as Fiscal Officer for assigned accounts.
- Monitor
transactions and their associated documentation to ensure compliance of internal and external regulations, policies, and procedures. - As
needed, perform financial transactions to make payments, collect revenue, initiate purchases, manage assets, and accurately book expenses. - Authorize purchases and payments based on budget allocations.
- Complete necessary coding, and review documentation for expenditures, deposits and correcting entries.
- Oversee unit asset management and inventory in financial systems.
- Conduct audits of partner units where directed.
- Ensure proper records retention of financial documentation.
- Oversee all university-required month-end and fiscal-end responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Basic knowledge of understanding financial data to identify trends.
- Basic knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to a diverse audience

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
