Position Highlights |
The AZ Health Zone campus team is a part of the University of Arizona's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-Ed). The AZ Health Zone campus team supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and environments that promote nutrition and physical activity among the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program's (SNAP) eligible youth and adults in Pima County. The campus team conducts partnership development, community engagement, implementation of Policy, Systems, and Environmental change interventions, and facilitation of nutrition and physical activity education. The Community Outreach Assistant II will implement nutrition and physical activity programming in K-12 schools and community sites within specific geographic regions in Pima County. Careful attention to relationship building, data tracking, and organizational techniques to manage project timelines are essential abilities for this position. The Community Outreach Assistant II will ensure that projects and programs are implemented in SNAP-Ed sites using the highest standards. The position will provide and assist the Community Outreach Professional I with direct nutrition education to K-12 students and parents using evidence-based curricula, provide support to both Childhood and Food Systems strategies to promote Policy, Systems and Environmental change at community settings, including Local Wellness Policy, low/no-cost food programs such as food pantries, summer food sites and farmer's markets. Applicants would benefit from understanding Trauma-Informed Principles, Community Engagement and from having experience working with diverse populations that have low access to food resources. This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position. Duties & Responsibilities |
*Support the AZ Health Zone campus team's youth and adult community outreach programs at locations such as schools, libraries, summer food sites and other approved sites. *Gain expertise in the delivery of SNAP-Ed approved curricula for targeted audiences. *Train and apply knowledge in Trauma-Informed Principles for SNAP-Ed programs.
*Provide direct nutrition and physical activity education to K-12 students and parents/caregivers paired with healthy food samplings. *Support the implementation of Policy, Systems and Environment (PSE) strategies in Food and Childhood Systems focus areas. *Support and assist projects with K-12 school stakeholders and other community partners. *Partner with community members and school stakeholders to assist in community engagement processes such as dot voting and focus groups. *Assist in the coordination and facilitation of trainings, meetings, and presentations with school stakeholders and community members. *Develop and disseminate nutrition and physical activity resources, educational materials, and quarterly e-newsletter. *Support the availability, distribution, and promotion of low or no-cost nutritious foods at food pantries, community, and summer food service program sites.
*Support farmers markets to increase redemption of food assistance programs.
*Assist in the facilitation of food access education for a variety of sites and audiences. *Collect and manage unit and state level data and deliverables using electronic data system platforms, including semi-annual reports. *Implement program evaluation for youth and adult audiences. *Participate in regular professional development opportunities to enhance nutrition and physical activity-related knowledge and expertise. *Coordinate with other team members and participate in strategic planning. *Possess general nutrition and physical education knowledge. *Possess strong written and verbal communication skills with significant attention to detail. *Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. *Ability to participate in occasional statewide travel (typically 1-3 days, 1-3 times per year). *Excellent organizational and time-management skills, including attention to detail and a commitment to consistently producing high-quality work. *Ability to manage multiple streams of work simultaneously. Ability to work non-standard hours, when necessary. |
Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's in Nutrition, Public Health or related field.
- Experience conducting community outreach and education.
- Experience working with school-aged children and adults.
- Experience delivering workshops, lessons, presentations.
- Experience conducting programs with cultural competence.
- English/Spanish bilingual.
