JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking a highly motivated Researcher to work in the Multi-scale Hydrology Processes and Intelligence group (MHPI). The successful candidate will work with our team to support work developing models using machine learning techniques to improve our understanding of hydrological processes.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Perform general research group duties, including preparation of funding proposals and coordination with research partners.

  • Collaborate with other researchers and scientists integrating hydrological and machine learning models into decision-making tools for water resources management.

  • Support the application of machine learning techniques to analyze large datasets and develop predictive models.

  • Present research findings at scientific conferences and workshops.

The Researcher should possess a master's degree or its equivalent, or be an active candidate for a terminal degree, in an academic field related to their research.Degrees in Hydrology, Water Resources, Computer Science, or related fields are preferred. The successful candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or Matlab is required. Experience with machine learning techniques and prior experience in water resources or environmental research are preferred.

This is a term appointment for 2 years with an excellent possibility of renewal. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
