Position Summary/Essential Duties:

Position will split their time 40% clinical and 60% research responsibilities. The UH Speech Therapy Services program is a national leader in educational and community-based practice that provides a variety of inpatient and outpatient services for hearing, communication, balance, and swallowing. The successful candidate is expected to have an independent research program with potential for extramural funding and engage in collaborative research endeavors. The position will focus on collaboration with leadership to build a premier center for swallowing care and research. In addition, candidates will be partnering with Laryngology division leadership to expand the research program in dysphagia outcomes and population health based research. The role will evolve care-based pathways focused on value based swallow care for inpatients and outpatients including embedding research, collaboration with radiology, speech, neurology, trauma, ENT and other specialties. Administrative and research leadership responsibilities also will be part of this position. The position will be nominated for Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Psychological Sciences and School of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Leads development of materials and tools necessary to execute research study.
  • Writing of protocols, informed consent, funding applications.
  • Design and organize databases.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, medical staff, nurses, research assistants and statisticians for execution of study.
  • Monitor and evaluate collected data. Analyze data generated.
  • Contribute to preliminary data for grant proposals, and support writing grant applications, writing research papers, reports, reviews and summaries.
  • Publish articles in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present results in conferences and other scientific meetings.
  • Plan and execute research in collaboration with other investigators on and off campus.
  • Should be able to work independently, read and critically interpret the literature, and contribute to new projects.
  • Performs patient evaluations/consultations and interprets results
  • Provides results verbally to the patient and/or family/caregiver and/or to a referral source
  • Develops treatment plan in conjunction with patient and/or family/caregiver
  • Implements treatment plan and monitors progress on an ongoing basis
  • Documents evaluation procedures, results, diagnoses, and recommendations
  • Provides mentorship in the area(s) of expertise
  • Collaborates with physicians and treatment team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes
  • Develops, attends, and participates in continuing education programs as required to maintain licensure and promote professional growth
