Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Office of the Chancellor provides support services to the Chancellor at Fayetteville State University. The Chancellor is the institution's Chief Executive Officer, senior administrative leader, and official spokesperson at the local, state, national, and international levels. The Office of the Chancellor coordinates and supports the activities of the Board of Trustees, serves as the liaison between the UNC System Office and the campus community, serves as the point of contact for various constituent groups served by the university, provides internal coordination and leadership on administrative matters and provides technical and clerical support to the Chancellor.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The position's primary purpose is to serve as the principal personal and high-level administrative support to the Chancellor. This position must interact with all levels of personnel in performing administrative duties and requires independent analysis and preparation of various reports and correspondences. The position requires discretionary judgment, coordination, and organizational skills and performs duties accurately and expeditiously.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and five years of related, professional experience, preferably as an administrator; and a thorough understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a chief executive officer of a university.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer applications; ability to interpret University Policy and laws; ability to communicate clearly and concisely; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • English usage, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Represent the University, Chancellor's Office, and the in a professional manner to be aware of matters affecting the University Chancellor's Office.
  • To work with various individuals and departments relating to different issues and concerns, multi-task under specific deadlines, and assist and facilitate problem resolution associated with students, staff, management, and the general public.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt a practical course of action to take.
  • Work independently with minimum direction and under strict deadlines, exercising sound judgment in recognizing the scope of authority and care in administrative detail.
  • Take and transcribe dictation and meeting notes.
  • Learn and use an integrated administrative information system.
