Unarmed security officers serve the university community by providing a variety of services that include monitoring the property at USU, security escorts, building lock/unlock, motor vehicle assists, event security, and campus patrol, which provides security for commercial/residential buildings, stadiums, arenas, museums, and other facilities. Security officers will be required to work in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors work requirements may include working in an office/event space, or public space that provides protection from the elements, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Indoor assignments may require the use of repetitive hand motion (i.e. typing). Outdoor assignments will require security officers to be exposed to various weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for extended periods of time. The security officer may also be exposed to loud noises, vibrations from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Security officers may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects around 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
