Director, Patient Care Services - Lead, direct, and manage decision-making for operations, quality, customer service, and success of two high-performance, high-volume in-patient units and three other clinical support departments within the intensive care, intermediate care, and medical-surgical inpatient units. These areas of responsibility have significant strategic and financial impact on the hospital. Duties include:

  • Coordinating the development, marketing, and strategic planning of new and existing patient care services at the enterprise level across multiple hospitals, contributing to the success of the hospital through achievement of system, hospital, and divisional goals.
  • Serving as the Division Lead of Patient Flow Committee (inpatient) to ensure optimal delivery of care in the most efficient methods possible. This role is vital to ensuring quality care, delivered in a timely and effective manner, despite frequent resource (staffing, bed availability, etc.) constraints.
  • Providing nursing practice and workflow expertise through active participation on committees responsible for planning and operationalizing the development and construction of new spaces and provisions of service, including advising leadership on nursing guidelines and interpretation/application.
  • Ensuring teams use accepted clinical best practices while implementing innovation to align with continued designation as a MAGNET organization.
  • Coordinating the delivery of high-quality nursing services, which meet or exceed patient expectations.
  • Mentoring and guiding Clinical Managers during regular, individual meetings as well as routine ad hoc advisory meetings to improve individual, unit, and hospital performance; providing coaching and/or educational workshops and training to clinical staff; empowering subordinates to understand and apply the corporate vision and ethos while maintaining an environment of personal and corporate responsibility; and maintaining a high level of professionalism and modeling an expert level of performance amongst subordinates.
  • Overseeing and managing fiscal, corporate, and human resource policies in multi-functional environment, including developing and implementing nursing policies, procedures, objectives, standards, and quality improvement measures.
  • Directing and leading two of the clinical key performance indicators identified by corporate leaders.
  • Managing six direct reports including two Clinical Managers, two Managers of Patient Care Services, one Nursing Professional Development Generalist, and one Operations Coordinator, ultimately overseeing a total of 289 positions.

Position requires (1) Bachelor's degree in Nursing. (2) 5 years of progressively responsible experience in patient care management or nursing leadership position(s) at the enterprise/hospital level, to include providing clinical leadership and/or advising provider leadership on nursing guidelines and interpretation/application; developing and/or implementing nursing policies, procedures, objectives, standards, and quality improvement measures; and providing coaching and/or educational workshops to clinical staff. (3) License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia. (4) Certification in basic life support from the American Heart Association. (5) Successful completion of drug test, health clearance, and criminal background check. (6) Work schedule is normally 8:30am to 4:30pm but flexibility in hours is required for this leadership position to meet the needs of the hospital that operates 24/7.
