Position description

The Gevirtz School of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) is committed to its mission to advance equitable educational systems and practices which are driven by core values of equity, evidence, excellence, community, critical thinking, and compassion. With this in mind, we seek to hire a part-time Lecturer beginning the Fall Quarter for the 2024/2025 academic year to a graduate level statistics course. This position is subject to the availability of funding and, depending on the circumstances. Courses may be added to this list as needed to cover one-time openings.

Academic offerings include undergraduate major and minor programs, masters programs with multiple specializations, professional preparation programs in elementary, secondary, and special education, and a doctoral program with multiple specializations. Teaching Responsibilities:

We are seeking an outstanding lecturer who can teach in the School's doctoral program. The successful candidate will be skilled in effectively teaching the economically, racially, and culturally diverse student body in the context of a minority-serving institution. This includes having racial literacies and culturally sustaining pedagogical practices.

We are seeking an instructor to teach the Multivariate Statistics course (ED 216A), a course that is taught to graduate-level students in the Education and Clinical, Counseling, and School Psychology graduate students in the School of Education. Topics include applied statistical modeling approaches used with multivariate data and its graphical display. This includes but is not limited to, measures of central tendency, variance and associations of multivariate data, multivariate normal distributions and its implications in applied modeling, data reduction techniques including principal component analysis, canonical correlations, cluster analysis, discriminate analysis, MANDOV, and repeated measures designs.

The teaching approach should be accessible to applied social science students and highlight how to select the appropriate method to use with multivariate data, how to run models, interpret, and present results. The focus should be on the application of multivariate statistical methods in Education and Psychological research.

General Duties/Responsibilities:

Duties will include full responsibility for mission-driven course preparation and presentation, including but not limited to, lectures, preparation and grading of exams, office hours outside of class, advising students, and supervision of teaching assistants or readers if assigned.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A Master's degree in Education or related field.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

A minimum of five years of demonstrated teaching experience in Education or a related field.

Preferred qualifications

Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field. Candidates with quantitative methods training background/coursework are strongly preferred.

Expertise in teaching quantitative research methods courses and applied statistics courses at undergraduate and graduate levels in higher education institutions.
