The Department of Human Services is seeking full-time Food Service Workers to join our dietary team at Wernersville State Hospital. In this role, you will be responsible for serving delicious and nutritionally balanced meals while contributing to the department's goal of providing a safe, clean, and pleasant dining experience for our consumers. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Food Service Worker 1, you will be responsible for preparing meals daily, including grilling and toasting foods, setting up the serving counter, preparing beverages, plating salads, desserts, and fruits, and dicing or peeling ingredients to meet the nutritional needs of our consumers. You will serve meals by dishing out hot and cold foods and pouring beverages. Additionally, you will handle dish washing tasks such as scraping dishes, pre-soaking silverware, operating the dishwasher, and storing clean dishes and utensils to uphold sanitation standards. Your duties also include cleaning and sanitizing all food service areas and equipment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 1st shift (6:00 AM to 2:00 PM) and 2nd shift (11:00 AM to 7:00 PM), Sunday - Saturday, with two 15 minute breaks.
  • Rotating days off, weekends and holidays will be assigned.
  • Overtime may be required as needed.
  • May change based on operational needs.

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
