Brief Summary of Job Duties

Under supervision, performs operational level groundskeeping duties as assigned. Cultivates planted areas; plants, fertilizes and maintains shrubs, small trees, lawns and other ground covers; may operate irrigation systems manually and by automatic controls. Uses a variety of hand and powered tools and equipment, including lawn mowers, edgers, line trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, and vacuums. Cleans grounds and walks of litter; empties trash receptacles; maintains and makes minor repairs to tools, irrigation and drainage systems.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years experience in grounds maintenance or gardening; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in institutional or commercial landscape maintenance and installation.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Maintain a valid CA driver's license, a clean DMV record and enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program
  • Satisfactory conviction history background check

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties

  • 45% Grounds Maintenance: Plants, fertilizes and maintains shrubs, small trees, lawns, and other ground covers. May operate irrigation systems manually or by automatic controls. Works cooperatively with other Groundskeepers and Lead Groundskeepers to maintain Campus grounds/landscape.
  • 30% Refuse Maintenance: Cleans walks and grounds of litter; empties trash receptacles; trims shrubs and small trees; removes weeds; rakes leaves and other debris.
  • 20% Equipment Handling: Operates hand and power mowers, edgers, line trimmers, hedge trimmers and a variety of hand tools.
  • 5% Safety: Complies with FM Safety Program and all health and safety regulations.
