The Stroke & Sepsis Coordinator provides clinical direction and oversight of the operational activities of UPH-St. Luke's Stroke and Sepsis Programs. Works with the Stroke and Sepsis teams to ensure the programs meet strategic, quality, and operational objectives. Oversees required criteria necessary for UPH-St. Luke's to remain a certified Primary Stroke Center.

Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Provide clinical and operational direction and leadership to ensure continuation and development of Primary Stroke Center certification for UPH-St. Luke's in accordance with American Stroke Association.
  • Provide clinical and operational direction and leadership to ensure continuation of the sepsis program.
  • Become familiar with the criteria and regulatory requirements for the care of the patient with sepsis.
  • Become familiar with the criteria and regulatory requirements of a Stroke Certification Program.
  • Remain current in stroke and sepsis best practice protocols and act as a primary liaison to medical personnel, physicians, and other practitioners. Serves as liaison between Medical Director, administration and the Stroke and Sepsis teams.
  • Chairs Stroke and Sepsis Committee meetings. Responsible for agenda, meeting reminders, attendance tracking, minute taking. Ensures follow-up of action plans.

Data Collection

  • Collect, document and review stroke data monthly and sepsis data weekly.
  • Analyze deficiencies and inconsistencies.
  • Identify trends and ensure recommendations are implemented when needed for change in practice based on evidenced based medicine, standards of care and regulatory factors.

Education

  • Promotes and monitors a system of communication and education among physicians and practitioners that creates a level of understanding of best practices in patients diagnosed with stroke or sepsis.
  • Educate staff and participates in educational sessions on stroke and sepsis issues.
  • Participates in developing and reviewing written policies and procedures and/or protocols concerning stroke and sepsis care. Communicates pertinent information regarding policies to all concerned.
  • Advises hospital administration on operational and technical matters pertaining to the Stroke and Sepsis Programs.
  • Participates in Community Outreach Education.

Qualifications

Education:

Diploma from an RN program.

Experience:

Must have at least 2 years of training or experience in the medical management of stroke and sepsis patients.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in primary state. Must apply within 90 days for licensure in secondary state.

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Current certification in a nursing specialty area such as Critical Care, Neurosciences, Rehabilitation or other relevant area preferred.
