Engineering Project Manager - WEC10

Position Overview:

The Engineering Project Manager role within Westinghouse is referred to as a 'Project Engineer'. The Project Engineer is a critical role responsible for the project management activities of complex engineering projects and programs. The Project Engineer is responsible for: defining the project's work breakdown structure; estimation of efforts/costs; schedule development and maintenance; resource planning, tracking and management; complex technical issue identification, tracking, and resolution; status reporting to senior/executive management and customers; for complex engineering projects withing the Global Instrumentation and Controls(GIC) organization. Due to the need to manage complex engineering designs, a strong technical background in conjunction with strong programmatic skills is required to be successful in the role.

This Role will include the following responsibilities:



  • Develops and guides project/program solution plans for very complex technical projects or programs.
  • Implements very complex technical projects or programs.
  • Performs the project/program management activities (definition of schedule, budget, risk, change, opportunity and resource allocation management) for very complex projects or programs.
  • Provides technical design guidance for projects or programs.
  • Guides continuous improvement plans and project/program expansion opportunities.
  • Successfully defines work flows, jobs, and reporting relationships to obtain optimum effectiveness.
  • Identifies resource needs and develops justification.
  • Leads troubleshooting and resolution of very complex problems.
  • Responsible for overall success of function or project.
  • Frequent inter-organizational and external contacts.
  • Supervises day to day tasks and priorities for employees working on a project, typically exempt-level employees
  • Provides inputs for departmental budgets and/or business plans for a small to mid-size department or business unit.
  • Recommends organizational structures and supervisory relationships for own segment of company.
  • Provides inputs for performance management of employees under purview and supports hiring, firing and promotion decisions.
  • May develop client relationships and sales opportunities.



Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience



  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Qualified applicants will have 7+ years of professional experience in engineering/technology based industries.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering design or development role.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience project management experience of complex technically oriented projects with programmatic, budgetary, and resource direction responsibilities.



Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience



  • 10+ years of professional experience in engineering/technology based industries is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience project management experience of complex technically oriented projects with programmatic, budgetary, and resource direction responsibilities is preferred
  • Advanced Degree preferred, Masters, PhD, or MBA
  • Project Management Professional(PMP) or equivalent
  • Strong technical, analytical, & data analysis skills
  • Experience across Engineering Design Lifecycle including Requirements, Design, Implementation, Test, V&V
  • Knowledge/experience in Systems Engineering / Architecture theory & methodologies
  • Experience with Distributed Embedded Control Systems
  • Knowledge/experience with Standards, process and methods for safety critical system design
  • Knowledge/experience in overall design and operation of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) and systems.
