Medical Center: UH: Pathology Lab- (Full-Time, Day Shift) - Job Summary: The Histotechnician performs embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains and immunohistochemistry, including technically complex procedures, following standard operating procedures for patient specimens, proficiency samples and quality control. Performs equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Serves as a technical resource and preceptor/mentor. Evaluates new equipment and procedures and prepares standard operating procedures. Meets and exceeds turn-around time goals for test production. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. HT Certification by the ASCP or graduated from an HT program accredited by the NAACLS and HT (ASCP) required, HTL (ASCP) preferred. Minimum of two years of experience in a high complexity pathology laboratory including routine, special stains, Immunohistochemistry, preferably In-situ hybridization, Immunofluorescence and Transmission Electron Microscopy preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Possesses excellent dexterity and analytic skills. Ability to plan and organize technical work, manage workload, operate technical instruments and equipment, input data and type. Possesses clear speaking abilities in English. Ability to use available resource material independently to resolve and document challenges constructively. Detail oriented. Able to reason and solve problems effectively, analyze and interpret data. Able to organize work, to service multiple requests and tasks at one time, while maintaining quality and a professional manner. Self motivated and works well with minimal direction. Articulates logical and well-founded arguments that support conclusions. Demonstrated the capability to multitask and exposure to high complexity testing as well as be able to work with minimal supervision.
Licensures and Certifications: HT (ASCP) certification required. HTL (ASCP) certification preferred.
