The Gould lab studies a multisystem connective tissue disorder. Our research is focused on the extracellular matrix (ECM) and pathology caused by mutations in ECM components. However, the pathology is extremely broad, and we study development and disease of many organs: ocular dysgenesis and glaucoma, cerebrovascular development and stroke, congenital myopathy and hypomyelination, nephropathy, retinal degeneration, and age-related vascular cognitive impairment and dementia. The overall goal of our research is to identify molecular mechanisms underlying a novel connective tissue disorder that may be targeted with therapeutic interventions. The successful candidate will fulfill two functions. The majority of their effort will be dedicated to performing mentored wet lab research with postdoctoral fellows or senior scientist. Depending on the demonstrated level of independence, the candidate will design and conduct experiments, analyze data, report results to other lab teams and co-author manuscripts. Typical approaches include, but are not limited to standard molecular biology techniques, biochemistry, cell culturing, histology, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy in addition to specialized, project-specific approaches. The project will involve animal husbandry and require maintenance of a rodent colony including maintaining a database. The candidate will also contribute weekly to shared tasks for general laboratory support and maintenance. Required Qualifications:
