A reasonable estimate for an initial appointment is $66,259. See Unit 18 Lecturer table for the salary range for this position. These are academic year appointments and subject to the normal processes of academic review. Salary is prorated in accordance instructional workload calculation.

Position description

Applicants internal to the UCM Department of Natural Sciences Education who had an appointment in 2023-2024 and apply by the "Initial Review Date" of 3/15/2024 will be considered prior to all other applicants.

The School of Natural Sciences anticipates hiring full and part-time lecturer positions to teach the following subjects in AY 2024-2025:

Classroom Management and Interactions

Diversity in Education

Project-based Instruction

Technology in Education

Apprentice Teaching

Other courses as needed.

These pedagogy courses include general education topics combined with a focus on teaching STEM disciplines. The candidate will have opportunities to engage in program building efforts and have an extensive impact on the growth and development of the CalTeach program.

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor will be evaluating student work and exams, calculating and posting grades, and holding regular posted office hours each week.

This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement. Appointments for AY 2024/2025 and/or Fall 2024 semester are reviewed in April, and for Spring 2025 semester are reviewed in October. The posting will remain open through February 2025 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants.

Basic qualifications

Advanced degree in STEM, education, or related field and experience teaching at the college or university level is required.
