Duties and Responsibilities
The Urban Malaria Project is dedicated to comprehending the burden and determinants of malaria transmission in urban areas within countries where malaria is endemic. Our ultimate objective is to leverage this understanding to contribute valuable insights to national malaria strategic planning. Our diverse range of projects employs qualitative methodologies to delve into community contexts, fostering dialogues that lead to consensus on crucial intervention planning matters. Our Chicago team based at Loyola University seeks a Bilingual Qualitative Researcher. The ideal candidate for this role will play a pivotal role in organizing and facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues, conducting focus groups, and key informant interviews. Additionally, they will provide crucial support in translating, transcribing, and synthesizing qualitative research findings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop multi-stakeholder dialogue and other qualitative research instruments.
  • Lead or facilitate stakeholder meetings.
  • Explain analytical products such as data visualizations in a clear manner to a lay audience.
  • Transcribe audio-records from dialogues, focus groups and key informant interviews, and synthesize findings.
  • Write reports and create presentations.
  • Present at stakeholder meetings, research meetings and conferences.
  • Lead writing of research manuscripts and submissions to journals.
  • At least 30 - 40% travel to field sites.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in developing qualitative research methodologies.
  • 2+ years of experience in facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues.
  • 3+ years of experience in transcribing qualitative research.
  • 3+ years of experience in summarizing qualitative data and synthesizing findings.
  • Ability to present qualitative findings to a diverse audience.
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Positive attitude and cheerful disposition.
  • Proactive and capable of working independently.
  • Quick learner with the ability to acquire new skills efficiently.

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's or master's degree in Sociology, Public Health or related field with at least 3 - 4 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Sociology, Public Health, or related field with at least 7 years of experience.
  • 5+ years of experience facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues and developing qualitative research methodologies.

Computer Skills
Basic troubleshooting skills, use of web browsers and internet, intermediate Microsoft Office knowledge, file maintenance and organization, email etiquette, digital safety and security.
