Position description

Nighttime Liver Hospitalist

The UCSF liver transplant service (LTU) is a collaborative service involving the Division of Gastroenterology and Department of Surgery at UCSF. The service provides care for liver transplant candidates and recipients. Team members care for these clinically complex patients both in and out of the Intensive Care Unit in an open ICU model optimized for continuity of care. UCSF performs 150-160 adult liver transplants at UCSF each year, with outstanding waitlist and post-transplant outcomes. The average LTU census is 18, with ~3 patients in the ICU. The daytime team members providing care for patients include nurse practitioners, and medicine and surgery interns, in collaboration with fellows and attendings in gastroenterology, transplant hepatology, and transplant surgery.

The nighttime LTU hospitalist will provide care for the patients on the LTU service who are hospitalized on med-surg, step down, and/or ICU. The hospitalist will also admit patients to the LTU service. Support from transplant hepatology and transplant surgery will be readily available by phone at all times and in person as needed. This role will not involve direct supervision or education of trainees. The LTU hospitalist will work 8pm-7am.

The LTU Service is dedicated to providing high quality, compassionate, specialized care for patients with acute and chronic liver disease before and after liver transplantation. The service exemplifies the unique spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration between the Departments of Medicine and Surgery at UCSF Medical Center.
